Community Safety Toolkit – Research and Development Officer

Muintir Na Tíre is a long established and well-respected national community development organisation. We wish to recruit a Research and Development Officer to lead the development, design and delivery of the “Community Safety Toolkit” a project funded through the Department of Justice Community Safety Fund.


Role Purpose

Muintir Na Tíre is seeking a Research and Development Officer to lead the development, design and delivery of a Community Safety Toolkit which will support and empower communities to become safer places to live, work, socialise and grow old in.


The postholder will undertake research and stakeholder engagement to develop a practical, accessible toolkit which aligns with the first national strategy for improving community safety. They will also be responsible for the delivery of training to support community groups, volunteers and local stakeholders to apply the toolkit in their own communities.


This role reflects Muintir Na Tíre’s long-standing commitment to community-led crime prevention, community safety, and care, in conjunction with An Garda Síochána, The Department of Justice, The HSE and other stakeholders.


Role Responsibilities

  • Research: Conduct research into community safety, crime prevention and best practice approaches, including relevant Irish, European and international models.
  • Development: Design a Community Safety Toolkit that is practical, inclusive and adaptable to diverse community contexts, including rural and urban settings.
  • Training & Delivery: Design and deliver mixed format training sessions based on the toolkit.
  • Support and Monitoring: Support community groups to implement the toolkit and adapt it to local needs.
  • Reporting & Evaluation: Prepare reports and updates for Muintir Na Tíre management and the Department of Justice Community Safety Fund. Evaluate the project in line with Department of Justice funding requirements.
  • Collaboration & Organisational Support: Work closely with the wider Muintir Na Tíre team and ensure that the project aligns with Muintir Na Tíre’s ethos of community empowerment, participation and care.

Role Requirements

  • A relevant third-level qualification in community development, social science, criminology, education, or a related field.
  • Experience in research and development of training.
  • Experience delivering training, workshops or community education programmes.
  • Understanding of community development and community safety policy.
  • Excellent facilitation, interpersonal and IT Skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage a project and meet targets within agreed timelines and budgets.
  • Full clean drivers licence and willingness to travel nationally within Ireland.

Hours:Fulltime. Flexible working hours, including some evening and weekend work


Salary Range:Depending on experience and qualifications


Contract Type:Fixed term ending December 2027


Location:Hybrid: Remote with national travel across Ireland and occasional days in Head Office based in Tipperary Town.


Reporting To:Chief Executive Officer
