Munster Technological University (MTU) is a multi-campus technological university, contributing to the region through the provision of academic programmes that support student development and opportunities, education and research.
MTU has an extensive and impressive regional footprint with six campuses across the South-West region in Cork and Kerry, and a student body of 18,000.
Munster Technological University wishes to fill the role of Technical Officer and be part of the End User Compute team within the IT Services Department.
This role will manage, maintain, support, and develop the universitys IT and audio-visual systems and related technologies across teaching, learning, and event spaces.
It will also provide advanced technical expertise in the installation, maintenance, development of the universitys audio-visual systems and emerging technologies such as AV over IP, Dante audio networking, and hybrid learning innovations.
This post will be based on MTUs Kerry Campus but may involve some travel between both campuses.
The successful candidate will be reporting to Head of IT Operations MTU Cork campus.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities Main duties and responsibilities of the role are as follows: Provide Level 1, 2 and 3 IT support to staff and students across multiple locations Work as part of a team environment to support class delivery Ensure all computer laboratories are setup as required for classes and maintained throughout the term Assist other IT team members in the development and implementation of projects that will enhance the services provided for all users Assist students & staff in the setup of equipment for assessments, installations and exhibitions.
Assist students & staff with printing for assessments and exhibitions.
Participate in the delivery of local IT Clinics for Staff & Students.
Participate in the evaluation of new equipment/software/services.
Work with other members of the IT Team as part of an overarching service delivery model Support and setup of Audio-Visual Equipment in Lecture Theatres, Laboratories, Studios, Workshops, Classrooms and other areas.
Assist major audio-visual installation and upgrade projects within specified budgets, including developing specification and technical solutions with service users and external suppliers to enhance the Universitys Audio-Visual technology capabilities.
Keep abreast of developments in AV technology, digital signal processing, and IP-based media distribution
- AV over IP, Dante audio networking, Crestron, Extron, and similar technologies, to contribute to the development and maintenance of university AV design standards and best practice documentation.
Maintaining and developing integrated control systems, contributing to design standards, project delivery, and continuous improvement of AV infrastructure.
Liaise with IT infrastructure teams to integrate AV systems securely with university networks.
Attend meetings as required.
Perform and undertaking other duties as reasonably required from time to time.
Qualification Requirements for the position: Essential Criteria: An appropriate Level 8 Primary Honours Degree from a degree awarding authority in IT, Engineering, Audio Visual Technology or related or cognate technical discipline AND Not less than 3 years relevant experience subsequent to obtaining the above qualification.
Desirable Criteria / Experience As the following are desirable criteria, any of the following are desirable: Extensive hands-on experience supporting, configuring and maintaining IT and AV systems in a large, complex environment (preferably higher education).
Experience in front facing IT Support Helpdesk environment(s).
Basic networking skills along with operating system knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Apple Mac Operating systems Strong understanding of Audio-Visual hardware and software: o AV over IP systems and networked media distribution o Dante audio networking and DSP configuration (Biamp, Bss etc) o Control and automation systems (Crestron, Extron, AMX) o Video conferencing and hybrid learning platforms (Zoom, MS Teams, etc.) o Projection, display, switching, signal management equipment, digital streaming, casting and audio reinforcement technologies.
Microsoft Office 365 experience Audio-Visual installation work designing and defining Audio-Visual integrated systems.
Experience in Digital Delivery and Digital service Experience managing projects and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders.
A background in digital event support with audio/visual technologies.
Terms of the Appointment: Salary Scale TO: €45,691.00
- €76,245.00 pa.
Permanent whole-time Hours of work
- 36.5 hours per week.
Annual leave: 29 days per annum.
