The Role:

Uisce Éireann IT (UÉ IT) provides IT services and support to the wider Uisce Éireann business. IT Operations is responsible for all operational run activities across Applications, Service Management and Infrastructure.


The IT Infrastructure team is responsible for IT infrastructure services to the business across a wide range of functions including maintenance of existing systems and IT infrastructure, release management, configuration management, IT disaster recovery, vendor management, security infrastructure management, IT standards compliance and quality assurance. The team guide resources, facilitate team demand management and capacity planning, and manage the sequencing and operational interdependencies of all IT Operations related initiatives. The infrastructure team also manages the data centres and IT infrastructure for UÉ, including IT availability and IT continuity.


Reporting to the Disaster Recovery & Process Technical Lead, the Disaster Recovery & Process Analyst will be responsible for preparing for, and effectively responding to business continuity incidents and safeguarding Uisce Éireann’s digital assets and reputation.


Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the implementation and maintenance of the Disaster Recovery (DR) capability within the IT Infrastructure team
  • Support the maintenance of business processes and standard operating procedure capability within the IT Infrastructure team
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of any infrastructure required to support IT infrastructure DR capability, and the creation and maintenance of Infrastructure recovery run books
  • Support the planning, coordination and management of multiple DR tests each year including scheduling, resourcing, post-test auditing and stakeholder management across the crisis management team (CMT), IT Applications, Cyber Security, and other business stakeholders
  • Support the design and architecture of new/upgraded systems to align to best practices for continuity and disaster recovery
  • Maintain and monitor the daily backups of business systems
  • Complete detailed incident and test reports to relevant stakeholders
  • Support the ongoing development of the DR documentation processes
  • Participate in procurement processes including the creation of contracts, creation and approval of purchase orders, running of mini competitions and tenders.
  • Identify areas for process improvement and implement best practices to enhance the team's DR capabilities
  • Keep up to date on IT issues and developments so that leading practices can be applied
  • Provide out-of-hours cover as part of the Standby Rota and participate in out of hours work as required.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaboration with key internal stakeholders across the UÉ business, including but not limited to:

    • Wider IT Teams
    • Risk Management Teams
    • Business Continuity Teams
    • Project Stakeholders across the business as required

  • Responsible for promoting and delivering health and safety commitments across UÉ and its supply chain, reinforcing positive behaviours and delivering health and safety objectives and requirements to the highest industry standards.
  • Support the delivery of the Uisce Éireann Transformation Programme, driving results required within the Directorate and supporting organisation-wide objectives.
  • Conducts duties and responsibilities in accordance with Uisce Éireann’s Information Security policies, standards, processes and controls to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of UÉ business information and delivery of critical services, in accordance with the NIS Directive and any other relevant cybersecurity regulation
  • Other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in all or some of IT Operations, IT Infrastructure, IT Application management, Process Improvement, Documentation and Documentation
  • Management highly desirable.
  • Involvement in IT DR planning and testing covering a variety of disaster scenarios including natural disasters, major conflict, ransomware and other security threats highly desirable.
  • Involvement in the analysis, design and implementation of systems including Infrastructure or Applications or both, highly desirable.
  • Relevant third level qualification and or accreditation is desirable
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in the water, utilities or similar industries is desirable and or relevant experience
  • Experience managing a team, with strong people, change management and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective partnerships with key stakeholders internally and externally
  • Proven track record with dealing with complex issues, proactively and in a timely fashion along with the ability to communicate information to others
  • Highly motivated individual, working to the highest professional standards and with proven ability to deliver results within a team.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to identify and analyse problems and potential improvements, and propose and implement solutions
  • Demonstrate adaptability and the ability to change focus and direction in line with business strategy and requirements
  • Proactively identifying new areas of improvement and using newly gained knowledge and skill on the job.
