Recycling Route Driver and Warehouse Assistant
20-30 hours per week, between 8am and 1pm
$15.00 per hour
Reports to Warehouse Operations Coordinator
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The following is a representative summary of key responsibilities. Additional tasks may be assigned as needed to support overall operations.
The driver's primary duty is collection of recyclable materials from local businesses. Candidate also supports daily logistics, materials handling, and facility maintenance operations to ensure the efficient collection, processing, and shipping of recyclable materials. This role involves regular interaction with commercial and residential customers, physical labor, and safe operation of warehouse equipment. The ideal candidate is reliable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
Commercial Route Support
- Drives a box truck to commercial collection sites.
- Loads and unloads recyclable materials; swaps out full carts and other receptacles as needed.
- Monitors warehouse and truck supplies; notifies appropriate staff when restocking is needed.
- Monitors the condition and cleanliness of cart shelters at partner locations. Performs minor repairs (e.g., replacing chains) and reports larger maintenance needs to the supervisor.
Material Handling and Baling
- Assists with baling incoming recyclables from both commercial and residential sources.
- Transports baled materials and full gaylord boxes into appropriate storage areas or vendor trailers.
- Maintains awareness of materials levels to assist with scheduling timely pickups.
- May assist with live loads when necessary.
Customer and Public Interaction
- Responds to questions from customers, volunteers, and the general public with professionalism and courtesy.
- Maintains a clean, organized, and safe workspace and vehicle. Responsibilities include upkeep of the box truck, and may include lawn mowing/trimming, snow and ice removal or salting, and occasional cleaning and repair of carts.
Other Duties
- May support future remote drop-off site initiatives.
- When authorized, assists in repair or construction of cart shelters for commercial partners.
- Performs additional responsibilities as assigned to support overall operations and environmental goals.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record required
- Forklift and baler experience preferred, or willingness to be trained
- Weight class of box truck does not require CDL
- Ability to bend, crouch, and stand for long periods of time
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in varying weather conditions
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Dependable, punctual, and able to follow safety protocols and standard procedures
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: From $15.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 30 per week
