Job Details Job Location: GRAND PRAIRIE, TX 75050 Position Type: Full Time

General Definition:

  • Oversee and manage all laborer team members, while performing daily tasks in and around the track maintenance department. 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Inspect facilities periodically to determine problems and necessary maintenance
  • Participate in coordination of projects (e.g. renovations)
  • Ensure adherence to quality standards and health and safety regulations
  • Assists the Track Superintendent in the implementation of any and all policies and procedures as set forth
  • Assist managing the Track Maintenance operations
  • Carries out management responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws, including training; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems
  • Act as role model, lead by personal example, encourage team work and cooperation, remain calm, cool and collected under any circumstance, handle conflict and resolve issues with tact and diplomacy, use caution and discretion when faced with crisis situation, avoid physical confrontation at all times, seek assistance from management, use your best judgment and ensure the staff is trained, re-trained and follows post orders and SOP's at all times.
  • Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.
Qualifications

Education:

  • 5 years related experience and/or training; or combination.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Agronomic experience needed for proper identification of turf grass diseases and pests
  • Working knowledge of turf irrigation system to maintain proper growth of turf track and soil moisture levels
  • Must have knowledge of race track surfaces and soil composition; ability to take periodic samples of surfaces for testing and implement changes in cultural practices based on testing results
  • Management and supervisory skills
  • Analytical problem-solving skills with an impeccable attention to detail
  • Ability to work with detailed information/data and obtain pertinent information to complete a detailed and cohesive written report
  • Proven track record as a team leader with an understanding of management practices
  • Ability to set overall strategy and drive process improvement
  • Ability to develop staff to meet accepted standards and departmental objectives
  • Ability to foster an environment that nurtures collaboration, teamwork, and respect
  • Ability to plan ahead to ensure that resources are effectively and economically allocated
  • Ability to prioritize time so that work is accomplished on a dependable basis; is reliable and committed to meeting schedules and deadlines
  • Ability to rapidly prioritize a variety of tasks and take appropriate action

  • Bilingual (Spanish)
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to work independently or as a team when required
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative, including being proactive and resourceful; working independently with minimum supervision
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing for the purpose of obtaining and disseminating information, problem-solving, and conflict resolution
  • May be required to walk or stand for extended periods of time
  • Eight years' experience working on a racetrack maintenance crew, including five years of management required
  • Three to five years experience in making irrigation repairs, and be able to read and interpret blueprints and irrigation plans

Licenses / Certifications / Other

  • Must be able to pass a background check and receive a license or permit from any regulatory agency, if applicable, to perform the essential job functions required
  • Texas Racing Commission License (TXRC) required
  • State Of Texas Chemical Applicators License or must obtain within 1 year of hire date required
  • Ability to make irrigation repairs and is able to read and interpret blueprints and irrigation plans required
  • Class A Driver's License with tanker endorsement and good driving record required
