Position Overview
The Travel Surgical Technologist plays a critical role in the operating room by assisting with surgical procedures in a competent, professional manner. This role ensures proper preparation, handling, and maintenance of surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies, and supports safe, efficient surgical procedures. The Surgical Tech scrubs for cases and performs duties as assigned by the Registered Nurse (RN) and surgical team.

Education

  • Required: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Required: Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program

Experience

  • Required: Minimum 2 years of recent experience in a comparable surgical or acute care setting
  • Basic analytical and problem-solving skills required

Licensure & Certifications

Required:

  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or equivalent Surgical Technology certification
  • BLS certification (American Heart Association)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently and adapt quickly to new environments
  • Demonstrates sound judgment and attention to detail
  • Professional communication and teamwork skills

Essential Job Duties

  • Provide direct patient care and assist surgeons during procedures
  • Scrub and maintain sterile fields for surgical cases
  • Prepare, handle, and maintain surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies
  • Ensure availability of necessary equipment and supplies for procedures
  • Support daily operations of the surgical department
  • Maintain required clinical knowledge, technical skills, training, and credentials
  • Adapt to changes in a positive, professional manner
  • Ensure proper cleaning and disinfection of equipment in accordance with quality control standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Maintains compliance with all applicable regulations and policies

Physical & Environmental Demands

  • Frequently exert 10–20 lbs of force; occasionally up to 100 lbs
  • Prolonged standing, walking, lifting, pushing, and pulling
  • Routine exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues, and communicable diseases
  • Potential exposure to hazardous medications and hazardous waste
