POSITION SUMMARY
Our Senior Project Accountants oversee and manage all aspects of project accounting, ensuring meticulous financial oversight and strategic support for project success. They serve as pivotal liaisons between the Operations team and Finance team, driving efficiency, compliance, and profitability.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Establish projects in the accounting system according to contract terms and financial guidelines.
- Facilitate seamless project hand-offs between estimating, project management teams, and other stakeholders.
- Track and manage the contract routing process, ensuring adherence to job-specific requirements like certificates of insurance and owner billing criteria.
- Maintain comprehensive project records, including contracts, subcontractor documentation, and change orders.
- Monitor project-related accounts, verifying asset and expense totals for accuracy.
- Investigate variances and prepare detailed variance reports for management review.
- Collaborate with receivables staff to address outstanding contract billings promptly.
- Generate and oversee all project-related billings to customers, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Provide regular reports on project profitability, identifying areas for cost savings or revenue enhancement.
- Inform management of opportunities for additional billings and remaining project funding availability.
- Close out project accounts upon completion, ensuring all financial and regulatory obligations are met.
- Prepare and submit government reports related to projects and billing as required.
- Manage all project-related accounts payable functions, including invoice processing, vendor/subcontractor payments, and lien waiver tracking.
- Ensure timely entry of supplier and subcontractor invoices to facilitate accurate customer billing.
- Maintain a systematic approach to filing project documentation, both physical and electronic, ensuring accessibility and compliance.
- Support project document control processes, including Change Requests and version management.
- Assist in developing and refining departmental processes, enhancing efficiency and effectiveness in project accounting and management.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Experience
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required; additional certifications (e.g., CPA, CMA) preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in project accounting within professional services industries such as architecture or engineering.
- Proficiency in industry-specific software (e.g., Ajera, Vision, ComputerEase, Procore) and advanced skills in MS Excel.
