Under the direction of the Sr. Director of Clinical Services, the Crisis Services Director provides strategic leadership, administrative oversight, and operational accountability for Crisis Services programs, including the Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) and Crisis Receiving Center (CRC).
This position is responsible for ensuring high-quality clinical service delivery, regulatory compliance, program sustainability, fiscal stewardship, and strong community partnerships. The Crisis Services Director directly supervises Crisis Services leadership staff and provides oversight of program performance, workforce development, utilization management, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
The Crisis Services Director collaborates with internal departments, Community Services Boards (CSBs), Region 4 partners, hospitals, placing agencies, and other stakeholders to strengthen service coordination, maintain referral relationships, and ensure accessibility to crisis care services.
Leadership at this level must demonstrate the ability to anticipate and respond to operational, regulatory, financial, and community trends that may impact service delivery and program viability.
All services are delivered within a systems-based framework and in alignment with the Crisis Now Model utilizing a "No Wrong Door/No Force First" philosophy, consistent with the mission, values, and guiding principles of St. Joseph's Villa.
Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU)An 8-bed short-term stabilization program serving youth ages 517 and their families for stays up to 15 days. Services include crisis intervention, stabilization planning, therapeutic programming, and family support services.
Crisis Receiving Center (CRC)Provides rapid assessment, crisis stabilization, and discharge coordination services for youth ages 717 and their families during stays not to exceed 23 hours.
Essential Job FunctionsStrategic Leadership & Program Oversight- Provides executive oversight of Crisis Services programs to ensure safe, trauma-informed, and clinically effective service delivery.
- Promotes the vision, mission, and strategic direction of Crisis Services within the organization and community.
- Directly supervises Crisis Services management staff and supports leadership development, succession planning, and workforce sustainability.
- Establishes performance expectations and monitors operational, clinical, and financial outcomes across Crisis Services programs.
- Utilizes data, outcome measures, and utilization trends to evaluate program effectiveness and identify opportunities for growth and improvement.
- Supports organizational strategic initiatives related to employee engagement, retention, quality improvement, and service expansion.
- Participates in emergency preparedness planning and organizational crisis response efforts as assigned.
- Develops and oversees program goals, objectives, policies, and procedures consistent with organizational expectations, licensing standards, accreditation requirements, and the Crisis Now Model.
- Maintains accountability for regulatory compliance related to DBHDS, DMAS, Medicaid, Project BRAVO, commercial insurance requirements, and other applicable standards.
- Ensures program readiness for audits, inspections, accreditation reviews, and licensing visits.
- Oversees systems that support documentation integrity, billing compliance, utilization review, and operational reporting.
- Collaborates with the Compliance Office, Finance Office, and clinical leadership to ensure accurate reporting, data collection, and quality assurance practices.
- Reviews program performance indicators and implements corrective action strategies when necessary.
- Develops and manages annual operating and capital budgets for Crisis Services programs.
- Monitors fiscal performance and ensures services operate within approved budgetary parameters.
- Develops strategies to maintain program utilization, referral sustainability, and operational efficiency.
- Reviews resource allocation needs and supports long-term program planning and sustainability initiatives.
- Oversees environmental and facility planning to ensure safe, therapeutic, and regulatory-compliant service environments.
- Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with Community Services Boards (CSBs), hospitals, placing agencies, schools, Region 4 partners, and other community stakeholders.
- Represents Crisis Services and St. Joseph's Villa in regional meetings, community initiatives, and professional partnerships.
- Supports system coordination efforts to improve continuity of care, referral pathways, and access to crisis services.
- Responds professionally to community concerns, stakeholder feedback, and service collaboration opportunities.
- Ensures leadership staff receive training, mentorship, and professional development opportunities that support effective program operations and career advancement.
- Evaluates operational trends, staffing models, service outcomes, and workflow systems to support continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Assists with investigations involving allegations of abuse, neglect, or significant incidents in collaboration with the Sr. Director of Clinical Services and Compliance Office.
- Participates in executive on-call responsibilities as assigned.
- Master's degree in healthcare administration, counseling, social work, psychology, human services, business administration, or a related field required.
- Licensure as an LMHP and/or nursing credentials (BSN/RN) preferred.
- Minimum of five to seven years of leadership experience in behavioral health, crisis services, or a 24-hour treatment setting required.
- Minimum of two years of supervisory or management experience required.
- Working knowledge of DBHDS, DMAS, Medicaid, licensing, accreditation, and behavioral health regulatory standards.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), electronic health records, and other technology platforms.
- Valid Virginia driver's license with acceptable driving record required.
