Job Summary: Provide essential clinical support in the operating room, assisting anesthesia providers, surgeons, and team members with procedural tasks to ensure smooth and safe surgical care. Adapt to the dynamic environment by prioritizing duties and maintaining high standards of instrument processing and patient safety. Essential Responsibilities
Assist with procedural tasks and support the surgical team during operations. Monitor and process instruments and equipment following established sterilization and safety standards such as AMMI, AORN, and AST guidelines. Perform cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization of surgical tools and equipment. Adjust work priorities as needed based on department activity and patient care demands. Use supplies judiciously to maintain quality care without waste. Quality and Patient Care
Support nursing staff by obtaining non-routine supplies promptly to avoid delays in patient care. Respond effectively to changes in patient condition and surgical needs. Collaborate with the surgical team to update preference cards, instrument sets, and supply lists as technology and procedures evolve. Promote teamwork by accepting and delegating tasks appropriately. Patient Satisfaction and Safety
Work closely with healthcare providers to prepare instruments and supplies prior to surgery. Maintain a professional, quiet environment to enhance patient comfort and focus. Adhere strictly to HIPAA regulations and social media policies. Verify medications and supplies before passing them to the sterile field, reporting any breaches immediately. Professional Development
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of anatomy, instruments, and equipment. Share expertise through orientation, cross-training, and mentoring peers and new staff. Engage in ongoing learning opportunities and participate in departmental goal setting and in-services. Customer Service
Build strong relationships with physicians, anesthesia providers, and other healthcare professionals. Practice AIDET communication techniques to enhance patient and visitor experience. Be flexible with assignments and shifts to meet department needs. Education and Certification
Must hold current certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or be a licensed practical nurse (LPN) or registered nurse (RN) with appropriate state licensure.
