Springs Rescue Mission considers every position one of ministry and a vital and valued part of our team. The Director of Facilities is responsible for overseeing the planning, maintenance, and daily operations of SRM's facilities and infrastructure. This role ensures a safe, efficient, and compliant environment by managing building systems, coordinating maintenance, and optimizing resource allocation. Working closely with leadership, the Director of Facilities develops strategic policies, implements cost-effective solutions, and drives sustainability initiatives to enhance operational performance and long-term facility management. The Director of Facilities ensures Springs Rescue Mission's physical environments are safe, reliable, compliant, and well stewarded so the mission can operate with dignity, consistency, and trust. This role owns the condition, sustainability, and long-term reliability of SRM's buildings, infrastructure, and physical systems. As a shared-service leader within Finance & Administration, the Director of Facilities balances responsiveness to a 24/7 campus with disciplined stewardship of resources, capital, and risk. This role does not manage guest behavior or campus flow. Instead, it ensures the physical systems supporting that work function predictably today and sustainably over time. This position requires senior-level judgment, systems thinking, and the ability to lead through competing priorities in a mission-critical, always-on environment.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Facilities & Brand Stewardship

Manage facility operations, including maintenance, repairs, and security. SRM's physical environments are a visible expression of the mission, values, and stewardship entrusted to the organization. Facilities are expected to reflect safety, dignity, cleanliness, and careboth for neighbors served and for donors, partners, and community leaders who regularly experience SRM through on-site tours and visits. The campus should consistently communicate trust, order, and intentionality.

  • Director must ensure:
  • that Facilities issues do not disrupt shelter operations or program delivery
  • Preventive maintenance reduces emergencies and unplanned costs
  • Capital projects are delivered on time and within approved scope
  • Buildings reflect safety, dignity, and donor-worthy stewardship
  • Program leaders trust Facilities as a responsive, solutions-oriented partner
  • Effective collaboration with Work & Enterprise on campus care and maintenance needs when appropriate

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, supervise, and develop facilities staff and maintenance technicians
  • Set clear expectations, priorities, and accountability
  • Ensure staff are properly trained in safety protocols, equipment use, and maintenance procedures
  • Foster a culture of professionalism, responsiveness, and stewardship
  • Provide on-call or emergency response leadership as required

Leadership in a Lean Environment

This role requires a leader who is comfortable operating in a lean environmentproviding strategic direction and systems-level leadership while also stepping into hands-on problem-solving when staffing levels or urgency require it. The Director of Facilities must balance practical execution with long-term stewardship, ensuring reliability and standards are upheld even when resources are constrained.

Systems, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Track facility-related metrics to improve reliability, efficiency, and cost control
  • Identify opportunities for sustainability, energy efficiency, and long-term savings
  • Continuously improving systems, processes, and preventive practices
  • Ensure facilities systems support donor trust and organizational credibility.
  • Develop and enforce facility management policies and procedures.
  • Ensure adherence to safety, health, and environmental regulations.
  • Lead sustainability and energy saving initiatives.
  • Coordinate space planning and workplace optimization efforts.
  • Establish emergency preparedness and disaster recovery plans.
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) to enhance efficiency.
  • Supervise and develop facilities staff to maintain high performance standards.
  • Ensure overall compliance with project requirements, regulations, and procedures.
  • Participate in the development and oversight of outsourced contracts pertaining to facility maintenance and approval and procurement process of parts and materials.
  • Provide technical guidance, direction, and develop specifications for supplies, parts, equipment, and services requested of/by contractors.
  • Establish, implement, and maintain preventive maintenance programs for facilities including performing regular inspections of facilities to develop and identify maintenance activities and to ensure compliance with building codes, and other applicable safety standards.
  • Ensure proper instruction and training of personnel in methods and procedures, proper use of equipment, general preventative maintenance, system maintenance and repair, and proper safety protocols.
  • Ensure facility maintenance activities and work orders are completed in a timely manner; create and maintain records and reports as required.
  • Develop strong relationships with cross-functional teams and departments.
  • Attends all required SRM meetings and reviews SRM emails regularly
  • Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing.
  • In this role, you may be required to drive on behalf of Springs Rescue Mission utilizing SRM company vehicle and/or your personal vehicle. In accordance with that, a valid driver's license, current proof of insurance and/or clean driving record for a minimum of 3 years is required. To ensure the safety of our employees and compliance with state and federal law, SRM utilizes ongoing Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) monitoring where MVR reports may be run randomly to ensure you have a valid driver's license and clean driving record if utilized as driver.
Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Business Administration, or related degree.
  • Strong knowledge of building systems, maintenance processes, and safety standards.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of related facility operations and maintenance management experience with an increasing amount of responsibility.
  • A combination of education and facilities leadership may be substituted for either education/experience requirement.
  • Certified Facility Manager (CFM) or Facilities Management Professional (FMP) preferred.
  • Previous experience working for a non-profit organization helpful.

  • Serves as an advocate for the homeless and raises awareness of the needs and concerns for the addicted and those in poverty, engaging others within one's influence to greater involvement and effectiveness on behalf of this population in Colorado Springs.
  • Believes that volunteers are vital to accomplishing the Vision and Mission of Springs Rescue Mission and thus is part of mobilizing the community in the fight against addiction, poverty, and homelessness.
  • Highly developed communications, collaborator, change agent, strategic, creative project management skills, and the ability to drive performance from all areas within Springs Rescue Mission.
  • Exceptional leadership and time, task, and resource management skills.
  • Strong problem solving, critical thinking, coaching, interpersonal, presentation, and verbal/written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively plan, track and monitor multiple projects and deadlines.
  • High initiative, seeking continuous process improvement, actively engaging in problem solving.
  • Excellent planning, analyses, prioritizing, decision-making, and implementation skills with a high level of computer literacy and personal responsibility.
  • Safety conscious with a strong knowledge of facility operation and general maintenance knowledge.
  • Flexible, able to appropriately respond to emergencies and needs of SRM. May require working extra or odd hours.
