Serve as Brigade Lead Athletic Trainer and principal advisor to your Injury Control Director on basic acute care, injury control, reconditioning, and performance optimization. Coordinate with Brigade H2F Strength and Conditioning team, master Fitness Trainers and Brigade Command Sergeant Major as requested to support unit development and execution of training programs in the physical domain for Soldiers with and without physical limitations. Ensure education, instruction, and guidance to Soldiers and Brigade leadership within AT scope of practice is synchronized with Brigade training calendar. Provide ATC overview brief as requested that can be utilized when in-processing new Soldiers to your Brigade. Should include at a minimum AT introduction and description of services offered, reasons to seek AT services, and locations/hours of availability. Should be developed with entire ATC team, lead is responsible for organizing and ensuring its completion.
Ensure safe and effective operation of equipment and tracking of supplies, report any deficiencies or needs to the Brigade Program Director. Complete Monthly Status Report with emphasis on recommendations, best practices, and lessons learned. In coordination with the Brigade Program Director and/or the Injury Control Director/clinical supervisor, attend and participate in meetings with Brigade leadership as requested or required. It is the Lead AT's responsibility to review meeting notes/information from meetings if not present.
Lead AT shall prepare and submit reports as requested by the Brigade Program Director and/or the Injury Control Director/clinical supervisor.
Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned units at the brigade (BDE), battalion (BN), or company (CO) level. Provide forward musculoskeletal (MSK) care, early medical intervention, injury prevention (IP), and performance optimization services in various settings, including fitness centers/gyms, BDE/BN/CO or administrative areas, outdoors, ranges, field training environments, and at the Soldier Performance Readiness Center (SPRC). Partner with other clinical and human performance specialists including PT's, OT's, Nutritionists, Strength & Conditioning Coaches, and Cognitive Performance Specialists in pursuit of H2F and brigade mission objectives.
Contribute to soldier readiness by delivering prevention-focused care, acute injury management, and rehabilitation for MSK injuries. Engage in performance optimization strategies that address the five H2F domains: Physical, Mental, Nutritional, Sleep, and Spiritual.
Serve as a key play in improving soldier performance, ACFT pass rates, and resilience across the unit. Observe brigade and below specific training events (e.g., shooting range, obstacle courses, combative training areas). Communicate effectively with trainees, staff, and other ATs, both orally and in writing. Prepare, teach, and share educational materials as needed/requested to help reduce and mitigate injury and increase soldier performance.
Demonstrate initiative, strong interpersonal relationship skills, and social sensitivity to interact with a diverse soldier population Ensure adequate patient care documentation utilizing proprietary healthcare and government software. Participate in Government-based education and in-service training as mandated by the local installation. Engage in continuing education programs to meet the requirements for AT license or certification renewals.
Requirements: Minimum Education: Master's Degree in Athletic Training or similar degree Accreditation: Graduate from a college or university accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). Certification/Licensure: Unrestricted state license/registration/certification in any of the 49 regulated states, the District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the US Virgin Islands to provide healthcare within the scope of practice for Athletic Trainers per state practice acts. Passing score from the BOC for the Athletic Trainer. National Provider Identifier (NPI).
Experience: Five years of relevant Athletic Training work experience. Experience working with active populations (e.g. military, high school, collegiate, professional sports, performing arts, occupational health) Demonstrated experience working with high school, collegiate, or professional sports, military, performing arts, and/or occupational health. Relevant experience developing and executing tasks and environment-specific functional injury control and health/well-being programs for groups of athletes. Ability to demonstrate sound management qualities; past staff administration or management preferred.
Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship. Credentialing: Ability to pass a background check and drug screen. Current physical and immunizations. Physical: Possess and maintain the ability to lift and manipulate loads or weights up to 20 kilograms/45lbs. Work Location/Hours & Physical Requirements: Physical Requirements: The environment is fast-paced and multifaceted with conditions and duties that can change quickly throughout a shift. Hours of Performance: The AT will be responsible for conducting business Monday through Friday, except federal holidays or when the Government facility is closed. Services, as scheduled, may occur outside of normal hours of operation and on weekends due to varying BDE schedules and locations. Scheduling: Schedules are subject to change due to training events/schedules, exodus, holidays, and unexpected events. Some workdays may be less or more than eight hours. Athletic Trainers are expected to work a 40-hour workweek and/or 80-hours within a two-week period to accommodate training schedules. No overtime payment is authorized. Hours worked begin at the first place of duty for the day and end at the last place of duty for the day.
