Job Family: Embedded Software Engineering
Job Description This role is responsible for designing and developing embedded software systems for Transit Bus & Rail solutions. You will lead small engineering projects, collaborate with cross‑functional teams, and ensure compliance with industry standards.
Responsibilities
Design and develop embedded software systems, including controllers and sensors, per customer and technical requirements.
Make design decisions that optimize performance, cost, and manufacturability; contribute to innovation, patents, or process improvement.
Support embedded software designs from concept through production launch.
Participate in DFMEA sessions and validation planning; follow APQP/NPD processes to ensure successful product launches.
Lead or support root‑cause analysis and corrective actions for software and electrical issues.
Evaluate specifications and performance needs to deliver cost‑effective solutions and architect scalable, maintainable software for real‑time embedded systems.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer or software engineering (Master’s preferred; ABET accredited).
6+ years of relevant experience and basic project management skills; ability to lead small‑scale engineering projects.
Working knowledge of embedded software design of systems and components, including engineering and manufacturing principles, practices, and procedures.
Experience with APQP/NPD Stage Gate, DFMEA, RCA/8D, and engineering analysis.
Deep knowledge of embedded architecture/systems, safety standards, performance optimization, and system integration.
Strong organizational and time‑management skills; capable of working independently and collaborating effectively with cross‑functional teams.
Physical Demands
Primarily office‑based work and use a computer for extended periods.
Occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
Ability to build, test, and inspect electro‑mechanical systems in office, lab, manufacturing environment, or on transit buses.
Occasional travel (10%) to customers and manufacturing sites.
May perform other duties outside of your function or trade with adequate training if necessary.
Compensation & Benefits The salary range for this role is $79,300 – $113,000, subject to change. Additional benefits include health, welfare, and retirement plans, and an annual bonus if eligible.
