Security Systems Design Engineer Madison, WI
Are you passionate about designing cutting‑edge security and automation solutions? SGTS Inc. is seeking a Security Systems Design Engineer to lead the development of integrated control systems, including PLC programming, HMI/SCADA development, and network design. You’ll work on projects from initial planning through final implementation, ensuring seamless security control system integration. This is an opportunity to contribute to high‑profile government and industrial security projects while expanding your expertise in electrical controls, IT, and automation.
What You’ll Do
Design & Develop: Create system layouts, electrical schematics, and panel drawings for integrated security and automation systems.
PLC & HMI/SCADA Programming: Program PLCs (Modicon Momentum, Allen Bradley 5000) and develop interfaces using Wonderware Intouch.
System Integration: Analyze, design, and implement secure communications between video, intercom, and access control systems.
Technical Support: Provide expert guidance to clients and internal teams throughout the project lifecycle.
Process Optimization: Identify and implement continuous improvements in system design and deployment.
What We’re Looking For Required Skills & Experience
PLC & HMI/SCADA Experience – 2+ years programming or troubleshooting PLCs (preferably Modicon Momentum or Allen Bradley 5000) and Wonderware Intouch.
Electrical Control System Design – Strong understanding of electrical schematics, panel layout, and control networks (AutoCAD a plus).
Networking Knowledge – Basic understanding of IP networking, serial communications, and system integrations.
Problem‑Solving & Self‑Motivation – Ability to work independently, troubleshoot complex technical challenges, and optimize system performance.
Strong Communication Skills – Experience collaborating with clients and cross‑functional teams.
Ability to Travel – 30%+ travel, typically 2–3 consecutive nights per week (home most weekends).
Security Clearance – Must pass government background checks.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in Security Systems – Familiarity with access control, video surveillance, and intercom systems.
Programming Skills – VB.NET, C# experience is a plus.
Degree or Equivalent Experience – Associate or Bachelor’s in Engineering, Electrical Technology, or a related technical field.
Hands‑on Troubleshooting Experience – 2+ years in electrical engineering, automation, or security technology.
