Sleep Lab Polysomnographer The Sleep Lab Polysomnographer conducts and monitors sleep studies, scores and reports polysomnograms, and maintains laboratory equipment to support the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders. They collaborate with physicians, patients, and care teams to provide accurate data and patient education. This role is essential for delivering high-quality sleep medicine services in a supportive environment. Key Responsibilities:
Schedule and perform PSG, MSLT, and MWT studies. Score, evaluate, and archive polysomnograms per protocol. Operate, calibrate, and maintain sleep lab equipment. Monitor patients during testing to ensure accuracy, comfort, and safety. Prepare comprehensive reports for physicians and referring providers. Consult with healthcare providers, home care companies, and patients on diagnosis, treatment plans, and outcomes. Provide patient education about sleep disorders, procedures, and post-study expectations. Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with medical necessity and insurance documentation. Support the facility's mission and adhere to departmental policies and safety procedures. Assist in quality improvement activities and ongoing clinical training.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED. Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care program or certification by the National Board for Respiratory Therapy (NBRC). Certification by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (RPSGT) or ability to obtain within one year of hire. Working knowledge of patient age-specific care. Proficient in administering oxygen therapy, CPAP, BiPAP, and other positive-pressure breathing devices. Skilled in performing EKG, aerosol therapy, EEGs, pulmonary function testing, and arterial blood gas analysis (if certified). Demonstrated knowledge of patient safety standards, infection control, and emergency response protocols.
Preferred Skills:
Prior experience in sleep lab or respiratory care.
