Location: Columbia, SC (Hybrid – Onsite for first 2 months, then remote eligible) Position Type: Contract (Staff Augmentation) Duration: 12 Months (with potential extension up to 8 years) Work Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM EST Hybrid Model: First 2 months: Onsite in Columbia, SC (5 days/week) After 2 months: Eligible for remote work (must meet performance and attendance expectations) Start Date: 10/06/2025 Number of Positions: 2 Interview Process: One round, conducted virtually SC Residency: Preferred or candidate must be willing to be onsite in Columbia, SC for the first 2 months at their own expense. The South Carolina Public Employee Benefit Authority (PEBA) is seeking two highly skilled Software AG: Natural/Adabas Administrators to join their mission-critical IT operations team. In this role, you will be responsible for administering and enhancing legacy Software AG environments, supporting day-to-day operations, optimizing performance, managing access controls, and contributing to a long-term modernization initiative. This role is essential to the ongoing performance, security, and maintainability of PEBA's core systems, which support critical public employee benefits for the State of South Carolina. Key Responsibilities
Database Administration & Support:
Manage and maintain Software AG Adabas databases in production, test, and development environments. Monitor nightly jobs and perform routine backups and restores. Refresh lower environments using sanitized production data.
Security & Access Controls:
Administer and enforce security policies using Natural Security, including role-based access controls. Conduct regular security audits and manage access rights for user onboarding/offboarding. Maintain compliance documentation for regulated environments.
Data Access & Analytics Enablement:
Implement and maintain tools like CONNX for efficient Adabas data querying. Develop and maintain user data catalogs. Write user guides and conduct training sessions for analysts and business users.
Change Management & Development Support:
Guide schema changes through dev/test/prod environments using formal SDLC/change control processes. Write scripts and maintain DDMs and Natural utility code for operational support. Maintain a formal data dictionary ensuring consistency and documentation of database objects.
Performance Optimization & Modernization:
Troubleshoot performance issues and tune system parameters for optimal operation. Research and recommend new tools, hardware, or configuration changes to improve resilience and maintainability. Participate in platform upgrades and migrations.
Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery:
Support PEBA's BC/DR initiatives, including planning, testing, and recovery execution.
Minimum Qualifications
8+ years
managing Software AG Adabas and Natural in enterprise-level production environments. Expertise in Natural Security, CONNX (or similar Adabas query tools), and DDM management. Strong knowledge of:
Backup and recovery procedures Environment refreshes Performance tuning and monitoring Scripting and automation using Natural utilities
Experience implementing access controls and audit procedures in regulated environments. Familiarity with formal change control and maintaining a data dictionary. Excellent communication skills; ability to create user documentation and deliver training. Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Software AG tools such as NaturalONE, Predict, EntireX. Exposure to capacity planning, platform modernization, and performance engineering. Experience with state or federal government systems, especially PEBA or similar benefit programs. Participation in business continuity/disaster recovery (BC/DR) planning and testing.
