AVL Test Systems Inc offers a position in the United States (US) as a remotely located Technician at an AVL customer site(s). The role involves participating in daily laboratory activities with the customer at a professional level, including setting up, operating, and tearing down experimental engines and drivetrain components in an engine dynamometer test cell or other testing environments. The Technician installs instrumentation on engines and performs dynamometer tests, and supports other lab operations such as calibration, maintenance, and housekeeping.
Roles and Responsibilities
Act as the primary AVL advocate and customer liaison.
Perform engine and test part installation and removal.
Conduct and observe standardized tests following test parameters; obtain and record data, or ensure data is captured by an automated system.
Troubleshoot problems with test equipment or related items encountered during testing.
Diagnose and perform routine maintenance and repair on equipment and engines following established schedules and procedures.
Fabricate equipment and testing apparatus components based on blueprints, schematics, manuals, and notes.
Use PC to generate reports and to store and retrieve data.
Engage in safe work practices and advise supervisors on improvements to test equipment fabrication, installation, and operation for laboratory safety.
Maintain a clean, professional, and organized work environment and appearance.
Communicate test status and results with internal and external customers.
Perform Lead Technician duties as required.
Ensure off‑shift operations are productive and customer needs are met.
Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
Associate degree or equal training.
5–7+ years of experience in the field or related area.
Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Ability to read and follow schematics, equipment manuals, blueprints, drawings, and testing procedures.
Application of basic mathematical operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages).
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Excellent housekeeping and organization skills.
Detailed understanding of standard concepts, practices, procedures, and equipment associated with dynamometer lab testing; ability to improve practices and procedures.
Extensive experience and sound judgment to plan and accomplish goals; ability to lead and/or direct work of others.
Ability to work without supervision and provide leadership to the team.
Familiarity with and mastery of AVL products used in normal testing processes.
