Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab)
within the Accelerator Physics & Superconducting Technology Division (APS-TD), Design/Drafting Group. Pay Rate:
$40/hr – $46/hr Location:

must meet all
of the following minimum requirements: Minimum
5 years of experience
working as a Mechanical Designer Demonstrated proficiency in Siemens
NX1980 CAD
(verified via virtual interview) Working knowledge of
GD&T (ASME Y14.5) Proven ability to deliver accurate, high-quality designs under schedule constraints Strong communication skills for collaboration with engineering teams Must be a current U.S. Citizen Applications that do not meet these minimum requirements will not be considered. Scope of Work / Impact The Designer will provide professional mechanical design and drafting support to Fermilab’s APS-TD Design/Drafting Group. This role supports critical scientific and engineering programs by producing high-quality mechanical designs, 3D models, and detailed drawings in accordance with established engineering standards, quality assurance requirements, and project schedules. The Designer works collaboratively with Fermilab engineering staff to develop, analyze, and document design solutions for accelerator and superconducting technology projects. Responsibilities and Duties Prepare mechanical designs and engineering drawings using
NX1980 CAD
and
Teamcenter Apply
ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards
(1994 or later) accurately and consistently Develop advanced-level
3D models , layouts, and
2D fabrication drawings Perform
design tolerance and stack-up calculations Support multiple APS-TD projects, including accelerator systems, superconducting technologies, and related infrastructure Collaborate directly with engineers to research design concepts, coordinate design development, and resolve technical issues Specify and select mechanical components and materials appropriate to the project requirements Follow Fermilab Design/Drafting procedures, quality manuals, and project schedules Deliver high-quality work products in deadline-driven environments Incorporate review comments and revisions as directed by Fermilab technical staff NX1980
3D models
and
2D drawings Layout designs and detailed component drawings Design tolerance and stack-up analyses Design files managed and controlled in
