Job Summary The Field Service Technician is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining industrial freezer systems and related equipment. This role requires strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, the ability to interpret complex technical information, and the capability to work independently in customer facilities. This position requires frequent travel, including overnight stays, to customer sites across multiple states. Most assignments will be conducted in Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Nebraska. Technicians must maintain a valid driver’s license, meet company driving eligibility standards, and comply with all company transportation and mileage policies.
Supervisory Responsibilities None.
Duties and Responsibilities
Installs, repairs, and inspects industrial freezer systems and supporting equipment based on written and verbal instructions, diagrams, schematics, and technical specifications.
Troubleshoots electrical, mechanical, and control components to identify root causes of system issues.
Performs equipment adjustments, calibrations, and modifications to ensure optimal performance.
Determines replacement parts, materials, and the most effective repair methods; takes appropriate action and completes repairs safely and efficiently.
Manages and installs cables and wiring, including splicing as needed.
Fabricates, adapts, or modifies components to repair equipment or enhance system performance.
Conducts safety checks and verifies that planned modifications and installations meet operational and environmental requirements.
Identifies and reports potentially hazardous conditions and takes appropriate corrective action.
Communicates professionally with customers on-site, providing updates, explanations, and follow‑up guidance as needed.
Completes accurate and timely electronic service reports, including parts usage and labor documentation.
Maintains company‑issued tools, equipment, and PPE in proper working condition.
Responds to emergency service calls and participates in on‑call rotations as needed.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities
Strong understanding of industrial freezer operations and applications.
Proficient troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
Ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and electronic reporting systems.
Excellent problem‑solving ability and attention to detail.
Able to follow highly technical and complex instructions.
Strong verbal and written communication skills when interacting with customers and team members.
Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and maintain professionalism on customer sites.
Education and Experience
Associate’s degree in a technical field preferred, or equivalent combination of training and directly related experience.
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods working in industrial freezer environments, cold temperatures, loud noise, and around moving mechanical parts.
Frequent standing, bending, climbing, kneeling, and working in confined spaces.
Must be able to lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs.
Manual dexterity required to evaluate, install, and repair components.
Must be able to tolerate PPE use, including gloves, protective eyewear, and cold‑weather gear.
Ability to travel extensively, including overnight stays, sometimes on short notice.
Work Environment
Work performed primarily in industrial food freezing facilities, customer job sites, and occasionally in office settings for reporting and administrative tasks.
Exposure to cold environments, wet surfaces, elevated noise levels, and mechanical hazards.
Additional Requirements
Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Must comply with company transportation, mileage, and reliable transportation policies.
Must be available for irregular hours, overtime, weekends, and emergency calls as required by customer needs.
