Workdays & Hours:
FLSA Exempt position. Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm; some evening/weekend work required. This position will be located at the Fort Worth City Hall, 100 Fort Worth Trail, Fort Worth, TX 76102. Partial telecommuting options will be available with a minimum of 2‑days in‑office attendance required each week. On a monthly rotational basis, this position will also serve as the on‑call database support person.

A Database Administrator position is available with the City of Fort Worth IT Solutions’ Database Design & Support division. This position will predominantly assist with the support of the approximately 80 SQL Servers and 1700+ databases that are used throughout the City of Fort Worth. The Database (DBA) team maintains and supports over 400 applications, ranging from in‑house developed applications (.Net) to cloud‑hosted solutions. Many of the applications exchange information through interfaces and/or API developed programs. These interfaces are primarily supported by the DBA Team. The DBA will support databases that provide solutions that can change the way the City conducts business. You will be performing day‑to‑day support for numerous systems/applications, while also working on many enterprise projects that have been approved.
Job Responsibilities
Provide excellent customer service to internal departments
Work with a team of DBAs to manage the Microsoft SQL environment
Participate in the support for application access and usage of databases
Develop database‑centric interfaces (i.e.: Microsoft SSIS packages)
Provide support to manage the security footprint for accessing databases
Build new application specific reports using Microsoft SSRS
Work Helpdesk tickets that are opened by employees, asking for assistance with database related functions
Document in‑house DBA developed applications
Perform routine maintenance, such as database tuning, backup/recovery, and performance monitoring using
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
Five (5) years of responsible experience in information system technical support work such as operating systems, database administration, or related fields
Valid Driver’s License
Candidate selected for hire must pass a CJIS background check
Preferred Qualifications
Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA)
Five (5) years of experience with developing SSIS packages and SSRS reporting
Three (3) years of experience with IDERA SQL Diagnostic Manager (DM)
Three (3) years of experience with SP Blitz (Brent Ozar tools)
Powershell development experience
Experience with building and supporting Data Warehouses, Data Lakes and Data Lake Houses
Experience with integrating database platforms with Artificial Intelligence (AI) platforms
ETL Processing and/or Linked Server integrations
Working Conditions Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking and repetitive motions. Light Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for the Sedentary Work category and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated Light Work.
Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) Background Check Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint‑based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A Misdemeanor Conviction, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions in the last 10 years, Class A Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication in the last 10 years, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and ALL Family Violence Convictions regardless of class.
