INTRODUCTION
We are seeking a skilled GIS developer to fix and enhance our interactive map using ArcGIS Experience Builder. The project involves optimizing the map's performance and translating it into English, making it bilingual.
The ideal candidate will have experience in ArcGIS online, interactive mapping, coding experience and a strong understanding of user interface design. This is a part-time role with a short-term engagement.
DESCRIPTION
We have a public-facing interactive map built on ArcGIS Experience Builder that showcases water monitoring initiatives and organizations across Quebec.
The map is functional but has bugs and UX issues we need fixed before we launch in public. We also need a complete English version integrated.
Data flow:
Excel file (survey 123) → Arcgis Online database → Arcgis Experience builder UI.
WHAT NEED TO BE DONE
***For your proposal, I can provide a specific list of bugs that need to be fixed, the survey123 excel file and a public link to the interactive map itself so you can see how it's made and interact with it directly.
Bug fixes examples
- Timeline widget defaults to a past date, needs to open on the current year by default (hard coding could be required or custom widget as it seem to be an experience builder limit)
- Filters return empty or incorrect results for valid queries
- Back button resets the entire map instead of returning to the previous view
- Zoom +/– buttons missing on some versions
UX/UI improvements examples
- Pop-up windows: text cut off, icons overlapping content
- Timeline: low contrast against the map background
- Add hover tooltips on filters to explain each option
- Relocate intro video to the beginning with a skip option
English version
- Full translation of interface, filters, legends, pop-ups, tooltips, which requires Survey123 knowledge
- The platform's native translation is insufficient, a parallel database structure is required so French and English content don't bleed into each other (to be discussed).
Performance & QA
- Multi-browser testing (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge)
- Desktop, Mobile & tablet testing (Android, iOS)
FREELANCER'S PROFILE
- Speaks French AND English at an acceptable level (able to understand and translate from french to english)
- Proven experience with ArcGIS Online, Experience Builder or Interactive map building (custom widgets, hardcoding, custom code panels)
- Ability to work with Excel-based data sources connected to ArcGIS online (survey 123 on desktop)
- Experience building bilingual map applications (to be discussed how we should do that)
- Clean communication and ability to flag issues proactively
- Available to deliver over approximately 8 to 10 weeks
SUGGESTED TIMELINE - To be discussed
Phase 1: Bug fixes + UX corrections : week 0 - 2 weeks
Phase 2: Filter logic + custom widgets : week 2-4
Phase 3: Full FR/EN version (translation to english) : week 4-8
Phase 4: Performance test & deployment: week 8 to 10 (max)
TO APPLY, PLEASE INCLUDE
1 - Examples of ArcGIS Experience Builder projects or Custom Interactive Maps you've worked on
2- Brief explanation of how you would approach the bilingual (parallel database) challenge
3- Your estimated timeline and rate
I value clear communication and honest scoping over flashy proposals.
Budget: Open to proposals, please submit your best estimate.
Project type: Fixed price / milestone-based.
Contract duration of 1 to 3 months. with 30 hours per week.
