What You’ll Be Doing:

As a Principal Safety Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring safety and compliance in our engineering projects. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Technical Leadership: Provide expert guidance in safety engineering.
  • Mentorship: Develop and mentor engineers, influencing design decisions through safety analysis.
  • Design Analysis: Analyze and influence nuclear submarine designs, focusing on major hazards like fires and explosions.
  • Engineering Judgement: Justify design safety and compliance through sound engineering principles.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Interface with regulators, clients within the MOD, and internal teams.
  • Documentation Development: Create and review safety case documentation to substantiate design safety.
Your Skills and Experiences:

Essential:

  • Degree in a relevant STEM discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Strong Analytical Skills: Excellent written and oral communication with a practical approach to problem-solving.
  • Proven Experience: Ability to produce clear safety case arguments and technical documentation for complex systems.
  • Hazard Management: Skilled in identifying, assessing, and mitigating hazards in complex engineering environments.

Desirable:

  • Experience in highly regulated industries (nuclear, oil and gas, maritime, aerospace).
  • Knowledge of DSEAR and fire risk assessments, including hazard identification and analysis.
  • Familiarity with hazard analysis techniques (e.g., HAZOP, FMEA, Fault and Event Tree Analysis).

About the Safety & Environmental Team:

Join an established team that plays a crucial role in our strategic initiatives. Collaborate with a diverse group of professionals, from principals to apprentices, and engage with operational managers and Health & Safety teams. This role offers opportunities for professional growth and exposure to the Wider Control Damage Hazards team. Relocation support packages are available for eligible candidates across all Submarines roles.
