Reports to: Supervisor Water
Purpose of Position:
Reporting to the Supervisor - Water, the Water Distribution Operator Class I will be involved in all aspects of maintaining the municipal water distribution system. This includes maintenance work on water mains, water services, water meters, fire hydrants, valves, backflow prevention devices, trucks and equipment. This position is responsible for the installation of water mains and appurtenances, water services, water meters, and backflow prevention devices. Must complete all regulatory training under Ont. Regulation 128/04, familiar with all Health & Safety Policies and Procedures.
Qualifications:
Grade 12 or equivalent GED plus completion of 2 year Environmental Technician program
Must have Class I Water Distribution license
12 months water distribution plant experience
Experience with the application of technical math, water sampling, lab techniques, reading and working with engineering drawings, working with maps
Valid Ontario G level driver's license
Valid Ontario DZ level driver's license
Traffic Control and Book 7
Experience with computer applications in a Windows environment including MSOffice
Must obtain acceptable police clearance
Willing to obtain a Class II Water Distribution Certificate considered an asset
Knowledge:
Knowledge of application of technical math, water sampling, lab techniques, reading and working with blue prints, working with maps.
Knowledge of cross connection and control, back flow devices
Familiar with Drinking Water Quality Management Standards, regulations and requirements
Must have knowledge and awareness of compliance to legislative and regulatory requirements with water distribution
Must be able to understand the operating conditions.
Major Responsibilities:
Maintain and repair water mains, water services, water meters, fire hydrants, valves, backflow prevention devices, trucks and equipment.
Conduct regularly scheduled and ad-hoc inspections of the distribution lines, and valves and ensure they are maintained and inspected in accordance with the Ontario Water license, MOECC and other governing legislation and according to approved standards and practices.
Assist in the installation of water mains and appurtenances, water services, water meters, and backflow prevention devices.
Repairs to water meters
Perform water locates as needed
Paint hydrants.
Conduct line and hydrant testing, flushing and maintenance.
Weed control around fire hydrants and appurtenances.
Restoration of lawns.
Clean all equipment and working environment in accordance with the established procedures and health and safety regulations
Assist in inventory activities.
Collect and deliver water samples.
Perform routine checks, scheduled maintenance and keep accurate logs and records in accordance with established procedures
Equipment and instrument maintenance and repair or replacement as needed.
Interpret and read maps and blue prints
Prepare and complete work orders according to established procedures and create detailed reports on repairs and maintenance or maintenance logs and in accordance with health and safety requirements
Report any incidents of non compliance to the DWQMS.
Report any near miss or injuries to Supervisor immediately.
Report any hazards to the Supervisor immediately.
Must participate in training as prescribed by the Corporation.
Must comply to the Drinking Water Quality Management System.
May be requested to work on winter control and snow removal with Public Works
Adhere to the OHSA as well as the Municipality of Lakeshore's Health and Safety Policies and Procedures including WHMIS.
Assist with various special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

Work is performed within established guidelines of Municipal policy and provincial regulations

May be lifting over 20 lbs.

Contractors, engineers, public in obtaining and exchanging information
Working Conditions & Hazards:
Environment
Works outside, sometimes in inclement weather.
Required to work in all weather conditions.
Driving around the municipality is required.
Control over Work Schedule
Hours of work 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (40 hours per week); Monday to Friday
On call rotation subject to the terms of the collective agreement with IBEW Local 636
Overtime as specified in the Collective Agreement with IBEW Local 636
