We’re recruiting for a Sales Manager to join a UK-based machinery manufacturer that designs and builds high-quality automated packaging machinery and processing systems for the food industry.
This is a home-based sales role with regular travel to food manufacturing sites across the UK and Ireland. You’ll be selling reliable, bespoke machinery solutions that are designed and manufactured in the UK to meet the specific production, automation and processing needs of food manufacturing customers.
This role would suit a commercially driven Sales Manager, Business Development Manager, Sales Engineer or Account Manager with experience selling capital equipment, automated machinery or engineered solutions into the food, FMCG or wider manufacturing sector.
The Role
As Sales Manager, you’ll be responsible for developing new business opportunities, managing existing customer relationships and turning food manufacturing challenges into profitable machinery sales.
You’ll work closely with customers to understand their production requirements, technical challenges and commercial drivers, before proposing bespoke automated packaging or processing machinery solutions.
This is a full sales cycle role, covering prospecting, site visits, technical discussions, quotations, proposals, commercial negotiation and order close.
Key Responsibilities
* Sell automated packaging machinery and processing systems into food manufacturing customers.
* Develop new business opportunities across the UK and Ireland.
* Manage and grow relationships with existing food and FMCG manufacturing clients.
* Identify customer production challenges and convert them into machinery sales opportunities.
* Lead technical and commercial discussions with customers.
* Prepare quotations, proposals and project costings.
* Manage the full sales cycle from initial enquiry through to order placement.
* Build and maintain a strong sales pipeline.
* Work closely with internal design, engineering and project teams.
* Represent the business professionally during customer visits, meetings and industry events.
What We’re Looking For
You’ll need proven technical sales experience within engineering, machinery, automation or capital equipment.
The ideal candidate will have experience selling complex, bespoke or solution-led products where understanding the customer’s application is just as important as the sales process itself.
You should be comfortable speaking with engineering, production, operations and senior management teams within food manufacturing businesses.
Essential Experience
* Technical sales experience within engineering, machinery, automation or capital equipment.
* Experience selling capital equipment into the food, FMCG or similar manufacturing sector.
* Ability to sell complex, bespoke or solution-led machinery.
* New business development experience.
* Strong account management and relationship development skills.
* Full sales cycle management experience.
* Technical credibility when speaking with manufacturing and engineering customers.
* Experience preparing quotations, proposals and commercial/project costings.
* Strong commercial drive, pipeline discipline and ability to work autonomously.
* Flexibility to travel regularly across the UK and Ireland.
Package
* £65,000 - £80,000 basic salary, depending on experience.
* £8,000 car allowance.
