User Experience (Project) Southwark Contract £230.57 per day PAYE or £300 per day Limited paid via umbrella company inside IR35 Our client is looking for an experienced User Experience (Project). We are seeking a UX & UI Designer who is dedicated to creating digital services that meet user needs. This position is within our Web and Digital team, under Technology Digital Services (TDS), which focuses on designing solutions to common issues across our Web and digital platforms. Your role is responsible for designing and enhancing the user interface and user experience of our digital products. You will be required to work closely with other disciplines across TDS and service teams. Key responsibilities Conduct in-depth user research to understand user behaviours, needs, and preferences. Analyse and interpret user feedback, data, and trends to inform design decisions. Create user personas and customer journey maps. Develop information architecture, site maps, and user flows to create a logical and intuitive structure for digital products. Ensure content is organised effectively and efficiently. Create wireframes, interactive prototypes, and mock-ups to visualise and communicate design concepts and iterate on these designs based on user feedback. Design visually appealing user interfaces that are consistent with branding guidelines utilising tools like Sketch, Figma, or Adobe XD. Ensure the interface elements are intuitive and user-friendly. Implement design principles such as typography, colour theory, and layout. Plan and conduct usability testing sessions to gather user feedback and validate design choices. Make data-driven design improvements based on test results. Identify and prioritise usability issues and enhancements. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, product managers, and other designers, to ensure a seamless integration of design into the development process. Communicate design decisions effectively and advocate for the user. Develop and maintain design guidelines, design systems, and component libraries to ensure consistency across the product. Document design patterns and best practices for the team. Create designs that are responsive and adaptable to various screen sizes and devices. Understand the principles of fluid and adaptive design. Ensure that designs comply with accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) and are inclusive for all users, including those with disabilities. Conduct accessibility audits and make necessary design adjustments. Keep up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and design tools to continuously improve design skills and stay innovative. Attend relevant design conferences and workshops. Person specification Essential criteria Experience A strong understanding of user-centred design principles, including conducting user research, creating user personas, and developing user journey maps to ensure that the design and content cater to the needs and preferences of the target audience. Proficiency and experience in organising and structuring content in a coherent and intuitive manner. This involves creating sitemaps, navigation flows, and content hierarchies to ensure a seamless user experience. Previous experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, subject matter experts, and stakeholders. Experience with user research, wireframing, prototyping, and usability testing. Knowledge of Government Digital Service guidelines and the ability to maintain consistency in brand voice and tone. Skills Ability to create wireframes and interactive prototypes to visualise the layout and functionality of digital interfaces in order to test and refine user interactions before the development phase. Strong knowledge of UI/UX design principles and methodologies. Proficiency in design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Figma, or similar. Strong understanding of HTML, CSS, and front-end development principles (JavaScript skills are a plus). Knowledge of usability and accessibility standards and guidelines. User empathy and the ability to advocate for the user. Strong project management and time management skills. Strong problem-solving and critical thinking. Strong attention to detail. Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. Work Style The postholder will work Monday to Friday on a hybrid schedule, with two office days per month. You will be required to work as directed within the core hours of Mon-Fri, 8am to 5.30pm.
