We are seeking a Senior Network Engineer.
Job Summary:
As a Senior Network Engineer, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining complex network systems, ensuring optimal performance, security, and availability. You will work with other IT teams and departments to design network architectures, troubleshoot issues, and ensure the network meets the growing demands of the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Network Design & Architecture:
Design, implement, and optimize network infrastructure for both local and wide area networks (LAN/WAN). Ensure the network meets the current and future needs of the business. Network Management:
Oversee and maintain network devices, such as routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers. Ensure the network operates at peak performance with minimal downtime. Troubleshooting & Support:
Diagnose and resolve network-related issues quickly. Provide technical support and guidance to junior network engineers and other IT staff. Security:
Implement network security policies and practices to safeguard the organization's data and infrastructure. Monitor the network for security vulnerabilities and respond to threats proactively. Performance Monitoring & Optimization:
Continuously monitor the network's performance, identify areas of improvement, and optimize network operations to support high availability. Documentation:
Maintain comprehensive documentation on network configurations, procedures, and architecture. Ensure all network changes are properly documented and updated. Collaboration:
Work closely with other IT teams (e.g., Systems, Security, and DevOps) to integrate network requirements into broader projects and initiatives. Project Management:
Lead or participate in network-related projects, ensuring proper planning, resource allocation, and timely execution. Vendor Management:
Collaborate with third-party vendors for the installation and support of network hardware and software. Skills & Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience). Experience:
Typically, 5-10 years of experience in network engineering or a similar role, with a proven track record in managing complex network infrastructures. Certifications:
Relevant certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE
Technical Skills:
Proficiency with routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, and wireless networks. Experience with network monitoring tools and software (e.g., SolarWinds, Meraki) Knowledge of protocols such as TCP/IP, DNS, ARP, SNMP, and others. Understanding of network security practices and tools (e.g., firewalls, IDS/IPS). Experience with cloud networking (Azure, Google Cloud) and SD-WAN solutions. Knowledge of IPv4/IPv6 addressing, routing protocols (BGP), and network management protocols. Soft Skills:
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to collaborate with teams and document issues. Leadership capabilities to guide and mentor junior engineers. Time management and organizational skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously. Additional Qualifications (Preferred):
Experience with network automation and scripting (e.g., Python, Ansible, Terraform). *This role is onsite 4 days/week in our Chicago office (Fulton Market District)
