About

At EY, you’ll have the chance to build a career as unique as you are, with the global scale, support, inclusive culture and technology to become the best version of you. And we’re counting on your unique voice and perspective to help EY become even better, too. Join us and build an exceptional experience for yourself, and a better working world for all.

You will be part of EY’s EMEIA-based Digital Health Excellence Center (DHEC). Our mission is to improve health outcomes and patient experiences. As the DHEC, we bring our expert knowledge and delivery power to industry-leading healthcare providers in collaboration with the local firms.

The opportunity

As a software architect, you will work alongside a team of international experts in technology, business, and the healthcare industry. Software development is one of the core strengths of the DHEC and pivotal in delivering digital health tools for our clients. With you, we want to further strengthen our technical expertise.

Your key responsibilities

As a software architect, you are responsible for the oversight and guidance of the development team to ensure the architectural vision is maintained. Additionally, you will work together with near- and off-shore technical teams, vendors, and external partners to ensure our tailored software solutions for our healthcare clients are compliant with health regulations and standards. In your role, you will collaborate with clinical teams, administrators, and other healthcare professionals to prioritize and address health-specific software requirements. As a technical expert, you evaluate and select software development technologies, tools, and platforms. You also identify software requirements and design architectural blueprints for the development team to follow. Additionally, you communicate requirements with other stakeholders like project managers, scrum masters, product owners, business analysts, developers, and infrastructure or security architects, as well as provide training and support in business development.

What you can contribute – skills fand attributes or shaping the future

  • Strong written and verbal communication, presentation, client service, and technical writing skills for both technical and business audiences.
  • Proficiency in the local language of your country of residence is required.
  • Fluency in English and German (written and verbal) is a prerequisite. Knowledge of additional languages (Italian/Portuguese) will be appreciated.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work under tight timelines for multiple project deliveries in parallel.
  • Ability/flexibility to travel.

To qualify for the role you must have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, (Software) Engineering, or other related field with a strong IT focus. Master's or further certification is advantageous.
  • Minimum of 5 years of working experience, preferably 2 years in a healthcare context and with a particular focus on designing and implementing custom-developed applications on native mobile platforms (Android/iOS). Experience with hybrid solutions or web is a plus.
  • Deep understanding of mobile application development, the frameworks, and the technical characteristics of the mobile operating systems Android and iOS.
  • Deep understanding of software architectures on all layers – network, infrastructure, security, persistence, application, and frontend to be able to effectively communicate with stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in writing technical concepts, database design, and data modeling.
  • Experience with CI/CD tech stacks, e.g. Azure DevOps, Jenkins, Puppet, Ansible, Terraform.
  • Experience in designing architectures in healthcare system landscapes and ensuring interoperability between healthcare-specific data formats, e.g. HL7/FHIR, OMOP, xDT, openEHR.
  • Good knowledge of the German healthcare system landscapes and reference architectures at hospitals, service providers, and/or health insurance companies, e.g., TI, HIS, LIMS.

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • A reliable network in the healthcare industry and a consulting track record.
  • A good overview of industry technology trends and emerging technologies, understand how they apply to our healthcare clients and can drive their adoption into our projects.
  • Good knowledge of (agile) project management standards, processes, procedures, and guidelines as well as the related frameworks, e.g. Scrum or SAFe.
  • Be able to read and develop code in known programming languages, e.g. Java, C++, C#, Python, PHP.
