What we are looking for We are seeking a highly detail-oriented, hands-on Controller to support our financial operations on a part-time basis (~8 hours per week). This role is ideal for someone who enjoys owning the full accounting cycle in a startup environment, from monthly close to financial planning and compliance, while working independently and efficiently.
You will work closely with leadership and external partners (e.g., tax accountants, insurance brokers) to ensure strong financial hygiene, accurate reporting, and scalable processes.
What you will do Accounting & Financial Operations
Own monthly close process, including journal entries and reconciliations
Maintain accurate books in QuickBooks Online
Reconcile balance sheet accounts and ensure financial accuracy
Manage accounts receivable (invoicing, collections, overdue follow-ups)
Manage accounts payable and vendor onboarding
Oversee company credit cards and expense tracking
Ensure compliance with revenue recognition policies
Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)
Maintain and improve financial models in Excel
Prepare and manage key financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow)
Lead cash forecasting (short- and long-term)
Track performance vs. plan and analyze variances
Prepare financial reporting for leadership and board discussions
Identify financial trends, risks, and opportunities
Equity & Cap Table Management
Maintain and update cap table in Carta
Manage stakeholder updates (onboarding/offboarding, equity issuance)
Support equity-related processes and documentation
Payroll, Benefits & Compliance Oversight
Oversee payroll processes
Ensure payroll tax compliance across states
Support benefits administration (health insurance, 401k coordination)
Assist with annual filings
External Partner & Compliance Management
Work with external accountants on tax filings and audits
Manage relationships with attorneys, insurance providers and brokers
Support annual compliance requirements
What you bring ·5–10+ years of accounting/finance experience, ideally in startups or small companies
·Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and monthly close processes
·Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and Excel (advanced formulas required)
·Experience with Gusto, Bill.com, Divvy, Carta (or similar)
·Experience managing full-cycle accounting independently
·High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
·Ability to work autonomously and prioritize effectively in a low-hour, high-impact role
·Strong communication skills and ability to partner with leadership
