About

This role exists to build and scale the Android experience that powers DOOR’s smart access and property management platform. You’ll play a critical part in connecting intuitive mobile experiences with real-world hardware — ensuring seamless, reliable interactions between users, devices, and buildings. This position is key to delivering a high-performance, scalable product that supports complex IoT environments and elevates the resident and operator experience.
What is the role? This is a highly technical, hands‑on Android engineering role focused on building within a modern Kotlin codebase that integrates deeply with IoT and hardware systems. You’ll design and develop features across the full stack of the mobile application — from Jetpack Compose UI to business logic and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) device communication.
You’ll work within a disciplined MVI architecture, building complex, multi‑step user flows such as device installations and access management, while ensuring clean, testable, and maintainable code. This role requires strong experience with real‑world device integration (BLE, background services, firmware updates), comfort working in large modular codebases, and a modern development approach that leverages AI tools to accelerate productivity, testing, and code quality.
Who is DOOR? DOOR (formerly Latch) is unlocking the next era of Building Intelligence. We combine premium hardware, intuitive software, and automated operations into one seamless platform—helping multifamily properties run more efficiently, grow revenue, and deliver smarter, more connected living experiences. From smart access and in‑unit automation to building‑wide controls, DOOR empowers owners, operators, and property teams to reduce overhead, protect asset value, and stand out in a competitive market.
We believe smarter buildings make life simpler. At DOOR, you’ll help shape a future where buildings anticipate needs, operate effortlessly, and quietly improve life for everyone inside.
What will you do?
Design and build product features across UI, business logic, and device communication layers
Integrate and maintain IoT and BLE device flows: pairing, firmware OTA updates, real‑time sensor state
Build complex multi‑step flows (device installation wizards, access management)
Maintain and evolve a disciplined MVI architecture with unidirectional data flow
Write comprehensive unit tests; 100% coverage is expected for business logic and presentation layers
What do you bring to DOOR?
Strong Kotlin: coroutines and Flow, declarative UI (Jetpack Compose), sealed types, structured concurrency
Hands‑on experience integrating IoT or hardware devices on Android: Bluetooth Low Energy, background services, or similar real‑world connectivity challenges
Solid understanding of unidirectional architectures (MVI or equivalent) and how to keep state, effects, and side effects clean and testable
Comfortable with large modular codebases and the build tooling that comes with them.
We expect every engineer on our team to be proficient at using AI tools as a core part of their daily workflow: writing, debugging, and reviewing code, navigating large codebases, generating tests, and accelerating the parts of the job that used to just take time.
Nice to Have:
Managing a reactive (RxJava) codebase alongside modern coroutines
VoIP or SIP integration
Over‑the‑air firmware update protocols
What is required?
Location: Must be based in South America (preference for Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Uruguay, or Chile)
Must be able to work fully remote and align with U.S. time zones (Eastern/Central hours)
Must be fluent in written and spoken English
This role will be engaged as an independent contractor; candidates must be able to invoice for services and manage their own taxes locally.
DOOR understands that job requirements sometimes exclude people who identify with historically marginalized groups from applying to jobs for which they are qualified. Even if you don’t meet 100% of the requirements listed, or if you achieved these requirements through unconventional channels, we encourage you to apply.
What does DOOR bring to the table? We are reimagining what a supportive workplace looks like, from the inside out to ensure every team member feels valued.
Flexible Time Off We offer a flexible time off policy to ensure employees have the opportunity to rest, recharge, and maintain well‑being—so they can bring their best selves to work.
Joining us means:
Having teammates all over the world in the US, Argentina, Spain and Romania.
Collaborating in a fast‑paced environment where you can apply what you have learned in new challenges, and, more importantly, grow your career.
Being encouraged to invent and innovate within your role and working in a company where calculated risk‑taking is highly encouraged and thinking outside the box is a must.
We embrace diversity and strive to create an inclusive environment for all.
