Business Analyst (Data Program) – Contract Opportunity
Location: Kansas City
Our client is seeking a highly motivated Business Analyst (Data Program) to support a large-scale data transformation initiative. This role will serve as a critical link between business stakeholders, product owners, and technical delivery teams, helping drive the successful delivery of scalable, enterprise-level data solutions.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience gathering and translating business requirements into actionable technical deliverables while working in modern agile environments. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically minded Business Analyst who thrives in collaborative, fast-paced environments and enjoys solving complex data and platform challenges.
Key Responsibilities
Act as a liaison between business stakeholders, product owners, and technical delivery teams, translating business concepts into clear technical requirements.
Develop a strong understanding of both business processes and underlying technical systems.
Gather, analyze, and document user and technical requirements for new initiatives and ad hoc requests.
Refine business requirements into detailed technical specifications and acceptance criteria for:
Data pipelines
Platform capabilities
Governance tooling
Collaborate with architects and engineers to align solutions with:
Platform standards
Data mesh principles
Security and compliance requirements
Support the design and implementation of:
CI/CD pipelines
Observability practices
Data transformation workflows
Ensure requirements align with data-as-a-product and platform-as-a-product principles, including scalability, reusability, governance, and security.
Assist with prioritization and trade-off analysis to help teams stay aligned with delivery commitments.
Apply analytical thinking and problem-solving skills to quickly identify and resolve issues.
Participate in agile ceremonies and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience
Minimum of 4 years of technical business analysis experience
Strong understanding of agile development methodologies and practices
Experience working with Atlassian Jira and Confluence or similar agile tools preferred
Ability to write detailed technical acceptance criteria and collaborate closely with engineers and product owners
Familiarity with modern data platforms and governance technologies, including:
GCP
Confluent
Kafka
Apigee
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities
Preferred Experience
Experience supporting enterprise data transformation initiatives
Exposure to cloud-native data platforms and modern data stack technologies
Understanding of governance, compliance, and scalable data architecture principles
Ability to work across multiple teams and stakeholders in complex IT environments
