In this critical role, you will be instrumental in building the foundational payment and accounting integrations for a greenfield Rails application. Your work will directly support crucial financial workflows, including employer premium payments via ACH, refunds, and beneficiary payments (ACH/check), by integrating with bank and accounting platforms such as NetSuite.
Key Responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain scalable, secure, and well‑tested backend integrations with external financial systems, including a bank and an accounting platform (e.g., NetSuite).
Establish foundational back‑end patterns for employer premium payments via ACH, refunds for overpayments, and ACH and check payments for beneficiaries.
Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code following OOP, DRY, and SOLID principles; actively participate in code reviews.
As this is a greenfield application, establish foundational patterns for all backend payment workflows and the flow of data into the accounting platform.
Contribute to full‑stack development with a strong focus on the backend.
Collaborate cross‑functionally with engineers, designers, and product managers in an agile environment.
Optimize application and integration performance for seamless and reliable operation.
Mentor junior developers and provide technical guidance as needed.
Stay current with Ruby on Rails trends, tools, and industry best practices.
Stakeholder Communication
Foster open communication with stakeholders, providing regular updates on project status and milestones.
Act as one of the points of contact between clients, stakeholders, and development teams.
Keep product managers, executives, and customers informed of progress and address concerns.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
Collaborate with various departments to ensure seamless integration of technologies and solutions.
Facilitate problem‑solving sessions to address complex challenges and foster innovation.
Qualifications and Skills Educational Background
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related field. A Master's degree will be considered a plus.

Significant Rails backend experience (5+ years) in production environments.
Proven experience building maintainable, well‑tested, and extensible data integrations in Ruby on Rails.
Experience with financial and accounting systems; direct experience with NetSuite is a significant plus.
Experience with ACH payment processing is a significant plus.

Familiarity with modern programming languages and web technologies.
Experience with Jira, Slack, and Confluence.
Prior experience in healthcare, finance, or government is advantageous.
Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or similar containerization tools.

Exposure to microservices architecture and distributed systems.
Experience in a DevOps culture with monitoring tools like New Relic or Datadog.
Knowledge of GraphQL and API‑first development.
Personal Attributes
Strong leadership qualities and cross‑functional collaboration ability.
Forward‑thinking with a keen eye for innovation and improvement opportunities.
