Perform daily auditing, education and training in inpatient coding for the
UW Medicine Enterprise Records and Health Information (ERHI)
department.
Position Highlights Serve as an expert in inpatient coding, respond to coding questions (ICD, DRG, CPT, HCPCS), develop and deliver audit/monitoring plans, produce educational materials, report unit activities, maintain records, monitor regulatory developments, and help develop coding program policies and procedures.
Primary Job Responsibilities
Serve as an organization resource and content expert for current documentation and coding guidelines.
Perform coding audits, analyze results, create audit reports, and provide education and training on audit findings.
Review DRG and CPT claim denials for commercial payers and maintain documentation in accordance with state and federal law.
Retain records per the UW Medicine Records Retention Schedule and department policy.
Evaluate billing/coding/documentation behavior and recommend improvements.
Review, analyze, and determine effectiveness of training, assess against KPIs, and recommend enhancements.
Maintain written documentation of actions, activities, or assessments in compliance with policy.
Develop and deliver role‑specific training for ERHI coding staff, implementing monitoring and risk assessment activities.
Manage or conduct audits in accordance with the UW Medicine Audit Policy.
Required Position Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a Health Sciences discipline, Business Administration or related field, or equivalent education and/or work experience.
Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible coding auditing, analysis, education, and training experience.
Certification: RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CCS‑P, CPC, COC, CIRCC, RCC, or ROCC.
Extensive knowledge of ICD‑10‑CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding principles.
Strong communication, organizational, analytical, and critical‑thinking skills.
Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
Experience in a highly matrixed organization.
Ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and handle high‑volume, detail‑oriented work.
Strong interpersonal skills for positive relationships across all levels of management and medical staff. Confidentiality and discretion with sensitive information.
Proficiency in MS Office Suite and basic knowledge of Office 365.
Compensation, Benefits, & Position Details Pay Range Minimum:
$83,491.20 annual
Pay Range Maximum:
$125,122.40 annual
