Summary The Global Benefits Manager is responsible for the strategy, design, implementation, compliance, and administration of employee benefits programs across the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada. This role ensures that benefit offerings remain competitive, compliant with local regulations, and aligned with the company’s total rewards strategy.
Working within a lean HR team, the role combines strategic oversight with hands‑on execution, including managing broker and vendor relationships, overseeing plan administration, monitoring program costs, and enhancing the overall employee benefits experience.
The position serves as the organization’s subject‑matter expert on health, welfare, retirement, leave, and ancillary benefits, including U.S. medical and 401(k) plans and country‑specific programs in the UK and Canada. The ideal candidate brings strong benefits expertise, financial acumen, global compliance knowledge, and the ability to operate independently in a fast‑paced environment.
Key Responsibilities Design & Evolve Global Benefits Strategy
Lead the research, benchmarking, design, and ongoing evaluation of benefits programs across the US, UK, and Canada.
Partner with brokers and external advisors to assess market trends, renewal strategies, and cost‑containment opportunities.
Develop data‑driven recommendations to enhance program competitiveness, employee engagement, and financial sustainability.
Analyze utilization trends, claims data, and participation metrics to inform strategic improvements.
Evaluate new benefit offerings and emerging market practices aligned with workforce needs and company growth.
Own End-to-End Benefits Administration
Oversee administration of all health, welfare, retirement, disability, leave, and ancillary benefits programs.
Manage eligibility, enrollments, life event changes, terminations, COBRA (where applicable), and global equivalents.
Lead annual open enrollment strategy and execution — including vendor coordination, system testing (Workday integration), communications, audits, and post‑enrollment reconciliation.
Ensure seamless coordination with Payroll, Finance, and HRIS to maintain accurate deductions and reporting.
Oversee leave of absence programs across all countries, ensuring compliant administration of statutory and company‑sponsored leave policies.
Lead Broker & Vendor Management
Serve as primary relationship owner for brokers, carriers, retirement providers, and third‑party administrators.
Lead renewal negotiations and vendor performance reviews.
Establish service‑level expectations and elevate complex issues to ensure high‑quality employee experience.
Collaborate with vendors to ensure compliance with evolving regulatory requirements.
Ensure Compliance & Risk Mitigation
Ensure full compliance with federal, state, provincial, and country‑specific regulations (including ERISA, HIPAA, ACA, UK statutory frameworks, Canadian provincial regulations, etc.).
Maintain and audit plan documentation, SPDs, contracts, and required notices.
Partner with Legal and external advisors to interpret regulatory requirements and mitigate risk.
Establish documented internal controls and audit procedures to ensure plan governance and operational integrity.
Financial Oversight & Invoice Management
Review, reconcile, and approve monthly vendor invoices; ensure accurate allocation by entity and cost center.
Partner with Finance on benefits budgeting, forecasting, accruals, and cost analysis.
Monitor total benefits spend and identify opportunities for cost optimization.
Analyze ROI of benefits programs and recommend adjustments based on utilization trends and cost performance.
Drive Operational Excellence & Automation
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce risk.
Partner with HRIS to optimize any partner integrations and reporting capabilities.
Develop and maintain SOPs, process documentation, and internal controls.
Enhance employee self‑service tools and communications to improve overall benefits literacy and experience.
Deliver an Exceptional Employee Experience
Serve as the escalation point for complex benefits and leave cases.
Provide clear, accessible education and communications to employees across all countries.
Promote wellness and ancillary programs through internal engagement initiatives.
Ensure timely, professional resolution of employee inquiries.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
7+ years of progressive experience in benefits administration, including multi‑country programs (U.S. required; U.K. and/or Canada strongly preferred).
Demonstrated experience designing and managing health, welfare, retirement, leave, and ancillary benefit programs.
Proven experience managing broker and vendor relationships, including renewals and contract negotiations.
Experience overseeing benefits budgeting, invoice reconciliation, and financial forecasting.
Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance related to employee benefits across applicable jurisdictions.
Experience with Workday Benefits or similar HRIS platforms.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret utilization, cost, and trend data.
Ability to operate effectively in lean environments with a high level of ownership and autonomy.
Exceptional attention to detail, discretion, and sound judgment.
Professional certifications such as CEBS, PHR/SPHR, or SHRM‑CP/SCP preferred.
What We Offer Wealthspire is proud to offer a competitive salary, PTO & paid holidays, 401(k) with match, and more. The base salary range for this position is $90,000 –$130,000. The base salary offered will be determined by factors including, but not limited to, experience, credentials, education, certifications, skill level required for the position, the scope of the position, and geographic location. Actual base salary offered will be determined on a case‑by‑case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance‑based incentives.
