About the Role AI/ML Engineer - Remote
Where You’ll Work You’ll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely from anywhere within the U.S. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
What You’ll Do
Develop and implement models and methods that extend and improve LLM capabilities and reliability.
Research, design and implement scalable machine learning solutions.
Develop new solutions and science best practices in Responsible AI.
Design, implement and deploy Deep Learning models, RAG and LLMs.
Collaborate with the Optum AI team and fellow scientist and engineers.
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in computer science, Machine Learning, statistics, engineering, mathematics, or another STEM discipline.
3+ years of experience with DL frameworks such as PyTorch and/or TensorFlow.
2+ years of experience using ML to solve problems in natural language processing (NLP), multimodal RT processing, and/or other AI domains.
2+ years of experience in Generative AI, grounding architectures, fine‑tuning LLMs and/or improving pre‑train LLMs’ performance.
2+ years of experience developing machine learning applications.
1+ years of solid agentic research and developing experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. in Machine Learning with focus on NLP and/or GenAI.
Proven solid technical and scientific knowledge about generative AI.
Experience with advanced deep learning, applied math and statistics.
Experience developing and refining graph science methods and LLMs.
Experience developing agentic frameworks to empower autonomous agent.
Benefits & Compensation Salary range: $71,200 to $127,200 annually based on full‑time employment. Optum offers a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution. Your total compensation will be based on factors including local labor markets, education, work experience and certifications.
