Job Summary Administers speech and language evaluations, tests or examinations to diagnose and plan treatments for clients, patients, or residents with various speech problems and swallowing disorders. Assesses clients with speech, language, cognitive, or swallowing problems and develops individualized treatment plans based on clinical diagnoses. Provides speech and language services, monitors disease progression, and adjusts treatments accordingly. Instructs clients in therapeutic exercises; provides consultation during treatment processes; ensures all standards, policies, protocols, and quality requirements are met.
May treat individuals of all ages with varying diagnoses and disorders. Demonstrates documentation in accordance with departmental guidelines and meets all regulatory requirements. Follows accepted clinical practice guidelines of professional organizations. Exhibits flexibility with variable work schedules/assignments. Participates in activities to promote the department, the Good Samaritan Society and Sanford Health. May be asked to supervise assistants, aides, and students, provide ongoing education, and perform other duties as requested.
Based on assigned area, work may focus on those receiving intervention in post‑acute, long‑term care, and home health care environments.
Qualifications
Appropriate education level in accordance with state licensure.
Licensed as Speech‑Language Pathologist in the required state(s).
If working at a Sanford Health Facility (preferred): Holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence issued by ASHA or is currently working on a Clinical Fellowship Year.
May require a valid driver’s license.
Obtains and maintains required department‑specific competencies and certifications.
Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers required within the first 60 days of employment.
