About

National Power is accepting applications to fill a Generator Service Technician opening in our Kitty Hawk, NC, market. Under the general direction of and reporting to the CISV Service Manager, the Generator Service Technician is responsible for maintenance and repair of generator sets and other electrical equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform various types and levels of maintenance and repair on generators and parallel systems ranging from 5‑5000 kw. Troubleshoot and repair Automatic Transfer Switches, including bypass isolation and closed transition types. Perform preventative maintenance service (oil and filters), troubleshoot AC and DC circuits, remove and replace components as necessary, perform warranty work per manufacturer’s guidelines, and start‑up/commission new generators and generator systems.
Perform diesel or gaseous engine troubleshooting and repair, including ignition components, injection systems, and valve adjustments.
Perform load‑bank testing on generator(s) to ensure units are in proper operating conditions and meet applicable code requirements.
Assist other technicians with large multi‑person jobs or troubleshooting complicated issues.
Education and Experience
HS Diploma required; Associate degree in an electrical/mechanical related field preferred.
Current Generac Power Systems certification preferred.
US Air Force Electrical Power Production Specialist, US Navy Electrician’s Mate, or Generator and/or UPS field service technician preferred.
Skills and Other Qualifications
Excellent communication skills and ability to give verbal/written reports of job status, repair recommendations, equipment/supplies needed.
Ability to account for time spent on jobs and travel.
Excellent driving record and a valid driver’s license. The job will require driving long distances to job sites and overnight stays in hotels 1‑3 nights (may also be required up to a week). Company covers hotel costs and provides a meal allowance per guidelines.
Good computer skills; comfortable with Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Word, Excel, and PDF software.
Ability to work from home, maintain vehicle, inventory parts, and safeguard company property (cell phone, laptop, tools).
Manage difficult or emotional customer situations; respond promptly to customer needs; solicit feedback; meet commitments.
Strong problem‑solving during emergency situations or limited-resource scenarios.
Training will be provided; may be required to attend courses in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and elsewhere.
Demonstrates accuracy, thoroughness, continuous improvement, and safety monitoring.
Work Conditions
Technician may work in various weather conditions (heat, rain, snow, high humidity, etc.).
Frequently work near moving mechanical parts.
Physical Demands
Lifting and carrying heavy objects, up to 75 lb.
Ascending or descending ladders, scaffolding, stairs, ramps.
Seizing, holding, grasping, turning with hand(s).
Entering text or data into a computer or other machine using a keyboard.
Pushing/pulling may involve use of hands/arms/feet.
Moving on hands and knees or hands and feet to enter restricted spaces.
Operating control mechanisms (pedals, buttons, levers, cranks) with feet or legs.
Clarity of vision (working with small objects or reading small print), including computer use.
Sitting for long periods.
Sometimes moving on hands and knees, hands and feet to enter confined spaces.
