Overview This is a senior position, requiring at least 8+ years of experience working at an interior design, architecture, or related design firm. Project Managers manage complex and multiple projects, responsible for the execution of project design solutions under the direction of the Principals/Owner. They must lead project design teams, delegate work constructively, and have a thorough understanding of contract requirements and project scope. Responsibilities include project schedules, budgets, and effective communication with team members and clients.
Responsibilities
Consult with clients to determine function and spatial requirements, and prepare information regarding design, specifications, materials, color, equipment, estimated costs, and construction time.
Plan layouts of projects and integrate engineering elements into a unified design for client review and approval.
Lead project design teams and ensure proper management flow for all phases of active projects, including budget and schedule management.
Establish, maintain, and document regular project-related meetings, including client, internal team, and consultant meetings.
Collaborate with building and permitting officials during permitting and construction phases of projects, including submitting permits as appropriate.
Apply knowledge of building codes and standards, and resolve complex technical and design issues.
Proactively keep staff informed about work status and seek clarification where appropriate.
Develop detailed project schedules and communicate key deliverable dates to the project team. Plan, organize, and manage work of the project team while ensuring tasks and expectations are clear.
Identify issues, risks, and conflicts and delegate or seek assistance in a timely and constructive manner when required.
Mentor and direct the work of less experienced staff and participate in professional development reviews, Lessons Learned, and Hot Topic sessions.
Maintain positive client relationships throughout the project, keeping clients apprised of progress on a regular basis and coordinating with key project individuals for clarification, coordination, and negotiation of critical issues.
Manage projects using company timekeeping and budgeting systems, complete work plans, including identification of project team members, budgets, consultants, schedules, fees, labor costs, and change notices. Be responsible for the financial outcome of projects.
Communicate with consultants, contractors, sub-consultants, and other disciplines to ensure project details are carried out, including technical issues and project information, at all levels of contract administration.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or Architecture from an accredited United States university.
Eight or more years of experience in design management at a professional commercial interior design or architecture firm, including corporate/tenant office interiors.
Fluency and confidence using Revit; working knowledge of AutoCAD required.
Working knowledge of MS Office and Adobe Suite software applications.
Demonstrated knowledge and proven ability in design, furniture selections/specifications, applicable codes, QA/QC process, construction documentation, construction administration, and emerging technology.
Ability to manage and lead all levels of staff through a combination of direct authority and subject matter expertise.
Proven ability to write and negotiate contracts for services, consultants, and contractors.
Proven ability to solve contract and administration issues within the established design context.
