Role Overview We are seeking an experienced Solutions Architect to design and deliver scalable, secure, and compliant technology solutions supporting NCCIH’s research, data platforms, and digital initiatives. This role will bridge business needs and technical execution, ensuring robust system design, seamless integrations, and adherence to federal standards. Key Responsibilities Design
end-to-end technical solutions
across applications, cloud infrastructure, and data platforms Translate business and research requirements into scalable architecture designs Define and implement
microservices, APIs (REST/GraphQL), and integration patterns Architect cloud-native solutions using AWS/Azure/GCP Ensure system
security, reliability, and performance optimization Establish best practices for
DevOps, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code Design data architectures including
data lakes, warehouses, and ETL pipelines Ensure compliance with
FISMA, NIST, FedRAMP, HIPAA
guidelines Collaborate with engineering, security, and research teams for solution delivery Conduct architecture reviews, risk assessments, and technology evaluations Define
disaster recovery, high availability, and business continuity strategies Mentor engineering teams and guide technical decision-making Required Qualifications Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field 8–12+ years of experience in software engineering, system design, or architecture roles Proven experience designing
distributed and scalable systems Strong expertise in at least one cloud platform (AWS/Azure preferred) Experience with APIs, microservices, and system integrations Knowledge of
DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines Strong understanding of networking, security, and system architecture principles Experience working in regulated or compliance-driven environments Technical Skills Cloud Platforms: AWS / Azure Languages: Java / Python / Node.js (any one strong) APIs: REST, GraphQL, API Gateway design DevOps Tools: Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI Containers: Docker, Kubernetes Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, CloudFormation Data: SQL/NoSQL databases, ETL pipelines, data modeling Monitoring: Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack Preferred Qualifications Experience in federal, healthcare, or research organizations Familiarity with NIH systems or biomedical data platforms Certifications (AWS Solutions Architect, TOGAF, Kubernetes, etc.) Exposure to data analytics or AI/ML systems Knowledge of zero-trust architecture Nice-to-Have Experience with event-driven architectures (Kafka, streaming systems) Exposure to AI/ML integration in enterprise applications Knowledge of data governance and privacy frameworks
