Responsibilities
Perform developmental editing, line editing, and copy editing for fiction manuscripts submitted to Saphly
Provide clear, constructive, and encouraging feedback to indie authors — many of whom may be publishing for the first time
Proofread final manuscripts for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and consistency before publication
Maintain and enforce Saphly’s style guide
Manage multiple manuscripts simultaneously, meeting agreed turnaround times
Flag content that may conflict with Saphly’s community guidelines or content policies
Requirements Must-have
Proven experience as an editor — fiction editing experience is essential
Strong command of English grammar, style, and storytelling structure
Familiarity with style guides (Chicago Manual of Style or similar)
Ability to give sensitive, author-friendly feedback that motivates rather than discourages
Excellent time management — comfortable handling multiple projects with firm deadlines
Proficiency with collaborative tools (Google Docs, tracked changes, etc.)
Nice-to-have
Personal interest in or deep familiarity with sapphic / LGBTQ+ fiction, romance, paranormal, or YA genres
Background in publishing, literary agencies, or creative writing education
Experience writing or editing sensitivity reads for LGBTQ+ content
Fully remote — work from anywhere, on a flexible schedule
Per-manuscript or retainer compensation — structured around your availability
