ABOUT THE JOB
Dispense prescription medications and consults with patients about the drugs and their use. Advise physicians and other healthcare providers on the selection, dosage, interactions, and side effects of medications to treat health problems. Manage the Pharmacy, perform administrative duties, and supervise pharmacy technicians as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
* Receives, compounds, and fills prescriptions and dispenses pharmaceuticals and other drug therapies.
* Consults with patients and/or medical practitioners on how to take and administer medications, drug indications/contraindications, dosage for safe patient use, drug interactions, potential side effects, and how to store medicines to maintain efficacy. Ensures safety by reviewing prescriptions for interactions with other drugs prescribed to patient, patient allergies, and abilities to take some types of medications. Advises patients on over-the-counter medications to supplement other drug treatments.
* Provides other drug and pharmaceutical information as appropriate.
* Give allergy shots and immunizations such as vaccines, flu shots, pneumonia shots, etc.
* Establishes and maintains methods and manner of storage and recordkeeping systems to provide for security and safekeeping of pharmaceuticals.
* May take patient's histories as required. May make initial clinical assessments and refers patients to appropriate clinicians.
