The Scientific Software Developer (Python, AI‑Assisted Development) designs and owns customer‑specific Python software solutions for the Genedata Expressionist enterprise software platform, with a strong focus on mass‑spectrometry‑driven biopharma R&D workflows. The role enables scalable data processing, automated analysis, reporting, and system integration for high‑throughput, scientifically rigorous applications across discovery and development.
As part of the Professional Services Development Team, the developer works closely with scientists, application experts, and fellow software engineers to translate complex scientific and business requirements into well‑defined specifications and robust, production‑quality solutions. The role leverages AI‑assisted development tools to accelerate implementation and evolution of custom solutions, while retaining full ownership and accountability for domain correctness, software quality, and long‑term operability, in line with Genedata and Danaher standards.
This position reports to the Off‑Core Developer team lead and is part of the Expressionist Business Unit located in Munich, Germany. This is an on‑site role.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
Translate customer and business requirements into clear functional and technical specifications.
Design and implement robust, production‑quality software solutions using Python and existing platform APIs.
Use AI‑assisted development tools as part of the engineering workflow, applying sound judgment to validate design decisions and ensure long‑term quality and maintainability.
Collaborate closely with scientists, application experts, and fellow engineers to ensure solutions address real‑world use cases.
Act as a role model within the team by demonstrating strong ownership, a focus on quality, and collaborative working practices, while actively sharing knowledge and expertise.
The essential requirements of the job include:
Education: MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Software Engineering, Physics, Analytical Chemistry, or a closely related technical discipline.
Experience & Python Expertise: Strong proficiency in Python, with at least 3 years of professional experience building production‑quality software with a strong understanding of modern software engineering best practices.
AI‑Assisted Development: Hands‑on experience integrating AI/LLM‑based developer tools and the ability to critically review, validate, and refine AI‑generated code to ensure correctness, maintainability, and long‑term operability.
Domain Context: Experience working with data‑intensive or scientific software systems, ideally in the context of mass spectrometry.
Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to clearly communicate technical concepts and design decisions to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:
Ability to travel occasionally for customer meetings or internal collaboration (typically low percentage, primarily within Europe).
No regular requirement for a driver’s license.
No special physical requirements beyond standard office and computer-based work.
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
Mass spectrometry, analytical chemistry, or related scientific domains.
System integration using modern APIs and data exchange formats.
Working in Linux/Unix and Windows server environments.
