About

The section IT Business Solutions Reinsurance P&C Solutions holds the worldwide IT account management for our Non-Life Reinsurance Underwriting as well as the responsibility for maintenance and development of the corresponding IT systems, in particular the Underwriting Platform. Munich Re’s Underwriting Platform tool suite supports the whole underwriting process for Non-Life business units globally and is critical for Munich Re’s most important field of business. To strengthen our team we are looking for a Senior Solution Architect with focus on the UWPF project which provides pricing and analysis solutions for our insurance risks.

This position will be located in Munich.

Your Job

  • Govern architecture evolution with the project technical architecture roadmap and planning as well as architecture strategies
  • Define, document, communicate and explain target solution architecture and architecture goals to business as well as various other stakeholders and consulting during the development of product requirements
  • Infrastructure Architecture (emphasis on Business and Application Architecture)
  • Constantly improve the Software Development Lifecycle and ensure highly code quality in close collaboration with the software developers
  • Accountability for the development, testing and implementation of technology solutions, leveraging existing architectural patterns whenever possible, and reporting on delivery commitments to ensure solutions are implemented as expected and to agreed timeframes
  • Setting and enforcing architecture principles in alignment with the enterprise architectural plan
  • Support of the strategic direction of technology investments to assist in the development of the enterprise architecture and maximize the return on technology investment
  • Requirements analysis for architecture driving requirements, e.g. quality goals and scenarios
  • Quality advocate for architectural qualities like robustness, performance as well as maintainability and evolvability
  • Responsibility for the adherence to appropriate standards (performance, monitor capability, audit acceptability, secure environment)
  • Responsibility for the balance between functional, service quality and systems management requirements
  • Provide guidance during feature scoping and refinement and solution design
  • Technical Debt Management in terms of e.g. management of vulnerabilities and regulatory compliance requirements
  • Awareness and application of external policies and guidelines, e.g., audit requirement for the release process.
  • Resolve security related questions with security architecture
  • Defining and Enforcing Development principles and processes
  • Moderate and resolve design conflicts with development process, trade off management – escalation instance

Your Profile

  • University degree, preferably in Computer engineering / IT or similar qualification
  • Several years of experience in software development as a developer and architect and hence in-depth knowledge of the processes of the entire software development and product life cycle
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills – experience in larger business application development projects as Architect or Lead Design Role.
  • Experience in large scale application and data architecture design and planning
  • Architecture analysis and design techniques, modelling and documentation
  • Deep technical knowledge in Cloud Technologies, in particular based on Microsoft Azure, .Net based architectures, web-based systems, service-oriented architecture as well as experience managing expectations when balancing alternatives against business and financial constraints.
  • Microsoft Technology and Dev Stack including Azure and Azure Dev Ops
  • Distributed and Cloud Based Architecture
  • Container Concepts and Kubernetes would be nice to have
  • Consulting and collaborative working style and a will to participate in a culture of accountability and sharing
  • A high degree of commitment and the willingness and ability to master the various tasks are essential
  • Thought leadership – able to monitor market trends and to drive creative thinking on future technology capabilities which will help increase the business value of Munich RE.
  • Fluent spoken and written English
  • Communication skills to translate and explain (verbal and written) architecture, trade off decisions; work organization etc. to various stakeholders with or without IT background
  • Experienced in agile way of working perspective in a highly regulated IT environment – from an architects perspective
