The section IT Business Solutions Reinsurance P&C Solutions holds the worldwide IT account management for our Non-Life Reinsurance Underwriting as well as the responsibility for maintenance and development of the corresponding IT systems, in particular the Underwriting Platform. Munich Re’s Underwriting Platform tool suite supports the whole underwriting process for Non-Life business units globally and is critical for Munich Re’s most important field of business. To strengthen our team we are looking for a Senior Application Developer (infrastructure) with focus on the Exposure project (MAEX application) which provides management and analysis of exposure data.

To complement our team of recognized IT experts, we are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual. You will work together as design lead in a team of highly qualified Azure infrastructure and DevOps experts for one Munich Re’s largest cloud native applications. Your field of activities will be varied: the role encompasses not only solution design for Azure infrastructure topics, but also supporting the team lead with team capacity planning in our scaled agile environment. You will also work closely with the responsible solution architect for infrastructure topics.

This position will be located in Munich.

Your Job

  • Support team lead with team capacity planning (short & midterm planning), e.g. estimation of new backlog items, planning of iterations and refinements, program increment plannings (PI plannings).
  • Accountability for consistent implementation of solution design within the development team, e.g. usage of technical standard solutions.
  • Accountability for quality assurance of the refined and implemented technical solutions with respect to quality goals, e.g., scalability, maintainability, security.
  • Evolving our Azure infrastructure with respect to automation, monitoring, performance for our globally used core business applications hosted in Azure.
  • Collaborating with the solution architects in the team to support the mid-term evolution of new cloud based solutions
  • Interfacing with central Service Delivery infrastructure services (Cloud Center of Excellence, Networking, IT Security) to continuously improve the systems in your responsibility
  • Automation of infrastructure provisioning, e.g. PowerShell and ARM
  • Optimizing the estate with respect to operating cost of Azure resources
  • Working with business units and Corporate Underwriting to plan and execute the release of new product versions
  • Ensuring stable and secure operation of our cloud native application including third level support for the mentioned systems
  • Cloud-Service troubleshooting including analyses and problem solving
  • Oversee important operating measures in collaboration with the release manager, e.g., replacement of certificates, rollover of secrets, monitor changes of breaking Azure changes
  • Monitoring of cloud and DevOps infrastructure
  • Design and configure network infrastructure, e.g., Azure IaaS / PaaS components
  • Development and maintenance of Azure DevOps pipelines, e.g., Azure DevOps YAML
  • Roll-out participation
  • Create and update Infrastructure documentation

Your Profile

  • University degree preferably in Computer engineering / IT or similar qualification
  • Experience in DevOps processes and data architecture design and planning for compute-intensive data driven (Web) and large scale applications, including state-of-the-art security practices.
  • Experience with relevant infrastructure technologies e.g., ARM templates, Terraform, Open Telemetry, Power Shell as well as Azure DevOps including git, Build and Release Pipelines (in YAML)
  • Good knowledge of the Azure infrastructure engineering stack. Examples of relevant services: Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Azure Data Lake, Azure Blob, Azure Functions / App Services, Azure Batch, Azure SQL, SignalR, CosmosDB Gremlin / SQL, Service Bus, API Management
  • Flexibility and bringing a curious and creative mindset, open to new things and able to propose innovative ideas
  • Customer focus, willingness to understand the reinsurance business domain and become a trusted expert partner to our users
  • Commitment and desire to drive topics and for life-long learning
  • Experience in agile way of working perspective in a highly regulated IT environment – from an a DevOps perspective
