The Medical Assistant provides excellence in customer service and is responsible for assisting the physician(s), caring for patients and assisting with patient referrals. Duties include responsible for maintaining accurate patient medical and account records; assisting with patient referrals to outside service providers; providing support for staff; and performing various patient care duties necessary to provide for the needs, comfort and care of patients. Assignments may vary as determined by the Department Physicians or Department Lead
Schedule:
- Monday Friday (Wednesday afternoons Off)
- 36 Hours
Pay:
- $23.75 -$26.00 DOE
Essential Job Functions:
- Rooms patients and accurately takes and records vital signs of patients in accordance with policy/procedures and MA certification.
- Obtains statement from patient or family as to nature of visit, anticipates needs of provider accordingly.
- Properly prepares patient for diagnostic procedures or treatments.
- Effectively and efficiently assists provider during clinic operations performing various patient care duties necessary to access and provide for the needs, comfort and care of patients (i.e.: immunization, EKGs, finger stick testing, etc.)
- Administers medications in accordance with policy/procedures and MA certification as directed by provider.
- Accurately documents all of his/her patient care in the medical record.
- Participates in incentive programs with regard to data gathering and notifying the provider of maintenance and wellness testing that is due on each patient and documents in the medical record.
- Promptly notifies the Department Lead and/or provider of any unusual occurrences in the patient or unusual activity in the clinic; follows through as advised.
- Performs basic lab procedures per certification and policies.
- Obtains prior authorizations for medications. Completes referrals to other providers or work with Referral Coordinator to make sure each patient is getting to specialists as directed by the provider.
- Answers incoming telephone calls, takes messages, and returns patient phone calls in a timely manner while remaining calm, courteous and professional.
- Restocks and prepares medical rooms and the department suite for patient examination.
- Cleans, sterilizes, and stores instruments and supplies in accordance with policy.
- Maintain accurate quality control logs on all designated equipment.
- Provides timely and accurate inventory and proper disposal of expired medications within policy guidelines and in keeping with related health care regulations.
- Consistently follows established safety policies and procedures.
- Adheres to policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
- Provides highest quality of customer service.
- Other duties as assigned by the Department Lead and/or Administration
Requirements:
- 3-5 years of experience
- Must have knowledge of Epic (must have worked with it in the last 15 months)
- Knowledge of NexGen
- Bilingual Preferred but not required
- Excellent knowledge base of HIPAA and OSHA requirements as defined for a medical assistant.
- Computer literate (Microsoft Office)
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks
- Ability to calmly and professionally resolve issues with diplomacy
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Highly organized; ability to multi-task
- Excellent customer service/patient care
- Knowledge of physician incentive programs such as EPC and P4P preferred
Certifications:
- High School Diploma
- Medical Assistant certification
- Current BLS/CPR Certification
