About the role

The purpose of this role is to provide subject matter expertise in Marine aspects for projects. This will include provision of technical advice and support in relation to operated and 3rd party vessels on matters relating to safe delivery of cargo and marine assurance. The key focus areas are to provide marine and nautical assurance including support for projects commencing from early concept phase to operations to ensure delivery of safe, most cost competitive solutions for a wide range of bp entities. This includes support to the Supply, Trading & Shipping, Production & Operations, Gas & Low Carbon Energy, Gas and Power Trading International, teams as they continue to develop their business and in turn delivery of their supply obligations to counterparties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide marine design assurance for bp projects.
  • Oversee marine and nautical interface which include navigation, cargo transfer, port authorities, ship/shore interfaces, mooring for FSRU, FLNG, FSU and onshore terminals.
  • Keep abreast of maritime regulations, policies, industry best practices.
  • Lead engagement and influence external interested parties to resolve marine issues across project concept, design, testing and operations.
  • Influence project teams and interested parties to adopt safe, efficient, fit-for-purpose marine solutions.
  • Participate and support process safety reviews (HAZID, HAZOP, 3D models, PFD, P&ID) performed internally in bp or outsourced.
  • Lead the bp shipping team capability building on marine projects.
  • Perform assessments and inspections of terminal facilities and STS contractors against Vetting & Clearance requirements and relevant standards to confirm suitability for bp use.
  • Provide technical support to LNG Trading, including ship/shore compatibility assessments and follow-up on shipping contractual matters in LNG sales contracts.
  • Support origination and trading on new opportunities, including SPA clause review and input to SPA negotiations.
  • Provide subject matter expertise for ship-to-ship transfer, tugs, pilotage activities
  • Provide expertise and advice in support of Vetting & Clearance teams and other internal interested parties, as required.
  • Ensure compliance with bp Group policies and standards including bp shipping marine standards and Operating Management Systems.
  • Support LNG trading benches on LNG terminal operational and LNG transfer at terminals and associated commercial matters requiring technical input.
  • Assist with dispute resolution and claims associated with LNG shipping matters.
Essential Education, experience and requirements
  • STCW Class II/2 certification.
  • Experience as Master / Chief Officer on oil and LNGtankers.
  • Knowledge of marine ship/shore interfaces such as port and terminal operations for both onshore and offshore.
  • Sound knowledge of the relevant maritime codes and regulations as well as industry best practices and standards.
  • Operational experience in handling oil or chemical or liquefied bulk gases.
  • Ability to analyse and develop proposals and solutions to various nautical design and operational problems.
  • Proven ability to deliver clear, structured technical reports.
Desirable education and experience
  • Experience or knowledge of applying Metocean data to marine operations
  • Understanding of core project management principles.
  • Participation in ship, terminal, ship to ship transfer operations or assessment.
  • Involvement in marine project safety assessment and knowledge of risk assessment techniques.
  • Knowledge of OCIMF Tanker and Marine Terminal Management and Self-Assessment.
  • Lead Auditor qualification
