Our client, a large and growing environmental services company, is seeking an Accounting Clerk to support day-to-day accounting and administrative tasks for the operations team. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity with a stable organization and long-term potential.
Essential Functions
Billing & Invoice Processing
· Enter, review, and maintain billing data and supporting documentation in company systems
· Generate, process, and distribute customer invoices (mail/email) and maintain invoice logs
· Assist with routine billing updates (e.g., cancellations, credit memos, and rate changes) per established procedures
· Respond to basic billing inquiries and route complex issues to the appropriate team member
· File and organize billing records (digital and paper) to support audits and record retention
Timekeeping/Payroll Support & Customer Service
· Answer phones/emails and document requests from customers and internal staff
· Assist with timecard and payroll data entry and corrections following established approval processes
· Collect, organize, and submit payroll documentation (e.g., forms, backup) and maintain related files
· Research basic payroll discrepancies and escalate items requiring higher-level review
Accounts Receivable Support & Basic Reporting
· Post and apply customer payments (checks/ACH) and update account records
· Assist with A/R reconciliations by matching invoices, payments, and backup documentation
· Run routine reports and compile data in Excel to support the accounting team
· Identify and communicate discrepancies or missing information to support timely resolution
Minimum Qualifications
· High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or coursework in accounting/business preferred
· 1+ year of experience in an accounting, billing, A/R, A/P, or administrative support role preferred
· Working knowledge of general office procedures; strong data entry and document management skills
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office (especially Excel and Outlook); accounting software/ERP experience a plus
· Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to meet deadlines
· Professional communication skills and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
