Medication Assistant

The Medication Assistant is responsible for the care and assistance of medication administration of residents according to their Individual Service Plan and Physician Orders. They report to the Wellness Director or their designee. Multiple shifts available.

The Medication Assistant is responsible for administering and/or assisting with self-administration of prescribed medication to residents and maintaining related medical records under the supervision of the RN and/or LPN. They verify the identity of residents receiving medication and record the name of the drug, dosage, route, and time of administration on specified forms of records. They present medication to residents and observe ingestion or other application, assist or administer medication, using specified procedures. They take vital signs or observe residents to detect and respond to specified types of medication and prepare reports or notify designated personnel of unexpected reactions. They document reasons prescribed drugs are not ingested by residents and adhere to community medication policies. They administer or assist with medication administration via various routes per state and certification guidelines. They may receive supply of ordered medications from the pharmacy, record and restock medication inventory, and complete required annual medication training. They provide personal care to residents in a compassionate and understanding manner and perform various housekeeping duties related to resident care. They are responsible for maintenance of electronic medical records, written documentation, assuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulations, certification standards, legal and ethical standards. They provide outstanding service to all residents, family members, responsible persons, and visitors of residents. They facilitate socialization among residents by leading activities and invite and/or remind residents to participate in planned activities. They carry out other duties as assigned by the Wellness Director or designee to ensure smooth operation of the program and to meet resident needs.
