Job Summary
LHH Recruitment Solutions is seeking a Tax Administrator / Tax Administrative Assistant for a contract-to-hire opportunity with a client located in Lebanon, Ohio. This role is responsible for supporting municipal income tax administration and serving as a primary point of contact for residents, employers, and businesses regarding local tax matters. The position ensures accurate tax collection, compliance, recordkeeping, and reporting in accordance with Ohio tax laws and local ordinances.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Administer municipal income tax programs in accordance with local ordinances and applicable Ohio tax laws
- Process individual and business tax returns, estimated payments, withholdings, and refunds
- Review tax returns for accuracy, completeness, and compliance
- Respond to taxpayer inquiries via phone, email, and in person using a professional, customer-service-focused approach
- Maintain accurate and confidential taxpayer records and files
- Assist with tax collections, reconciliations, and reporting activities
- Coordinate with employers regarding withholding requirements and compliance
- Prepare adjustment notices, billing statements, and tax-related correspondence
- Support basic audit and compliance activities under the direction of leadership or contracted tax professionals
- Work with outside agencies such as regional tax agencies, auditors, and collection partners as needed
- Assist with year-end reporting and filing requirements
- Stay current on changes to Ohio municipal tax regulations and local tax ordinances
- Provide general administrative support within the finance department as needed
- Working knowledge of municipal income tax administration preferred
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
- Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills
- Understanding of basic accounting principles and recordkeeping practices
- Ability to work independently in a small office environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Experience with tax or municipal software is a plus
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Associate's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field preferred
- Prior experience in municipal finance, tax administration, accounting, or payroll strongly preferred
- A comparable combination of education and relevant experience will be considered
