About

The Shop Supervisor plays a critical role in keeping GFL’s fleet safe, compliant, and operating at peak performance. This role leads daily maintenance operations, supports shop personnel, and partners closely with the Maintenance Manager and General Manager to ensure repairs, inspections, and preventative maintenance are completed efficiently and to GFL standards.

Responsibilities
  • Leadership: Lead and assign work to mechanics and shop employees; follow up to ensure repairs are completed accurately and on schedule.

  • Hands-on Support: Jump in and perform repairs as needed to maintain shop flow.

  • Scheduling: Partner with the Maintenance Manager/GM to schedule trucks, compactors, and equipment for service or repair.

  • Planning: Plan repairs in TMW, order parts in advance, and ensure jobs are set up for success.

  • Administration: Manage monthly POs and reconcile TMW with the company purchasing card.

  • Reporting: Handle month-end close, generate reports, and maintain inventory accuracy.

  • Procurement: Order tools, supplies, uniforms, and outside repair services with appropriate approval.

  • Compliance: Ensure all inspections, maintenance, and repairs follow company policy and DOT requirements.

  • Safety: Investigate vehicle damage and accidents; lead ongoing training to improve skills and safety.

  • Development: Help hire, train, and coach mechanics and shop staff.

  • Backup: Step in as backup for the Maintenance Manager or Shop Supervisor when needed.

What We’re Looking For
  • Experience: Proven experience with vehicle inspections and preventative maintenance.

  • License: Valid driver’s license required. CDL is plus

  • Technical Skills: Strong mechanical skills specifically on heavy trucks and equipment.

  • Tech-Savvy: Comfortable using computers and shop software

  • Leadership: Good communication skills and the demonstrated ability to lead a crew.

  • Attributes: Organized, reliable, and able to prioritize work in a high-volume shop environment.
