Position Summary AFT Application Engineers report to a Regional Manager and are responsible for developing pulp screening and refining solutions using AFT’s industry‑leading technologies. This role requires the ability to respond to technical inquiries, conduct audits of mill stock‑preparation systems, develop customer proposals, and deliver technical seminars. Application Engineers coordinate the planning, design, and installation of screening and refining equipment in industrial environments, ensuring proper application and performance. They also support the growth of AFT’s business within the assigned territory by providing application expertise and collaborating closely with sales, manufacturing, and other internal functions.
Key Responsibilities
Develop screening and refining solutions for customers by leveraging AFT’s pulp screening and refining components and utilizing AFT’s proprietary software for system design, sizing, troubleshooting, and predictive analysis.
Support AFT’s sales representatives and customer service group in the product application and quotation processes.
Partner with AFT Product Managers and the Technology Group to stay current on technical developments and apply AFT products appropriately in the field.
Promote the growth of AFT’s business within the assigned territory by coordinating closely with Regional Managers, Product Managers, and the sales team.
Oversee equipment start‑ups to ensure AFT products are installed correctly, operating to specification, and running safely and reliably.
Provide training to AFT’s customers and sales representatives including the application, maintenance and service of respective products.
Stay abreast of technical developments and current trends in the pulp and paper industry by participating in training sessions, seminars, and continuing education.
Set up and maintain a professional home office environment that supports efficient execution of Application Engineering duties and ensures seamless communication with AFT’s corporate, customer service, and Sherbrooke‑based manufacturing/engineering teams.
Be proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other software tools to present technical data to AFT customers in a clear, organized format tailored to the audience’s level of expertise.
Comply with all safety rules and procedures at customer mill sites and ensure all required AFT and customer‑specific safety certifications remain active and up to date.
Write clear and concise mill visit reports utilizing AFT’s CRM including all related documents concerning technical audits, proposals and recommendations.
Required Profile Education:
Bachelor's degree in chemical or mechanical engineering. An advanced degree would be an asset.
Experience:
Previous experience in the pulp and paper industry, gained either through direct work in a pulp and/or paper mill or through a technical or commercial role with a major supplier serving the industry.
Location This is a remote, home‑office‑based position with regular travel to pulp and paper mills within the assigned territory. To ensure effective regional coverage, the desired location would be in the Mid‑South—preferably Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, or Mississippi.
