*Job Description*
The Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) provides high-quality medical care and technical support in a fast-paced emergency and urgent care environment. The LVT works closely with veterinarians, veterinary assistants, and client service staff to triage, stabilize, and treat critical and non-critical patients while maintaining excellent client communication.

* Weekends: All staff is required to rotate weekends (every other Saturday and Sunday), or split weekends (Saturday or Sunday)
*Primary Job Responsibilities*
The Veterinary Technician role is responsible for all of the qualities and duties of the LVT job description, and:
*Clinical & Patient Care*
* Perform triage and assess patient condition.
* Monitor and record vital signs, pain levels, and patient status during treatment.
* Administer medications, IV fluids, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian.
* Collect and process diagnostic samples (blood, urine, feces, cytology, etc.).
* Assist with surgical and medical procedures, including anesthesia monitoring.
* Provide emergency support, including CPR, stabilization, and critical care monitoring.
* Educate clients on patient care, medications, and post-treatment instructions.
*Technical & Equipment Responsibilities*
* Operate diagnostic equipment (x-ray, ultrasound, lab analyzers) safely and accurately.
* Maintain and monitor anesthesia machines, oxygen, and other critical care equipment.
* Ensure accurate documentation in medical records (electronic or paper) for all patients including Vetsnap, and Instinct.
* Proper handling and documentation of controlled medications as directed by a veterinarian.
*Hospital & Safety Responsibilities*
* Follow strict infection control, biohazard, and sanitation protocols.
* Maintain organized treatment areas and ensure availability of medical supplies.
* Assist in inventory management, restocking medications, and equipment maintenance.
* Adhere to hospital protocols, OSHA standards, and state regulations.
*Team & Client Communication*
* Collaborate with veterinarians, assistants, and client service staff to ensure efficient workflow.
* Communicate clearly and empathetically with clients, particularly during urgent or stressful situations.
* Mentor and train veterinary assistants and students as needed.
* Display computer skills and efficiency.
* Participate in team and coaching meetings.
*Examples of Veterinary Technician Responsibilities: *
* Triage incoming patients and prioritize care based on severity.
* Monitor vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) and patient status continuously.
* Calculate and administer medications, IV fluids, vaccines, and prescribed treatments.\\
* Collect and prepare diagnostic samples (blood, urine, feces, cytology) for testing.
* Assist veterinarians during exams, surgeries, and emergency procedures.
* Perform anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery under supervision.
* Provide wound care, bandaging, and supportive treatments.
* Recognize and report changes in patient condition promptly.
* Support resuscitation and CPR efforts on critical patients.
* Set up and monitor emergency equipment (oxygen, crash carts, IV pumps).
* Stabilize patients for diagnostic imaging or procedures.
* Provide rapid, accurate communication of patient status to veterinarians and team members.
* Operate and assist with diagnostic equipment (x-ray, ultrasound, lab analyzers).
* Maintain accurate and complete patient medical records.
* Run in-house lab tests and document results accurately.
* Prepare and manage medications, fluids, and anesthetic agents according to protocols.
* Educate clients on treatment plans, medications, and post-care instructions.
* Provide compassionate support to clients during stressful or emergency situations.
* Collaborate with veterinary assistants, receptionists, and other technicians for smooth workflow.
* Mentor or train new staff or veterinary students when needed.
* Document patient care, treatments, and observations accurately.
* Assist with billing, appointments, and record keeping as needed.
* Participate in continuing education and maintain certification/licensure.
*Physical Effort*

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to bend, stand, stoop, walk, sit, talk and listen; will use hand to manipulate, handle or feel; will reach with hands and arms. The employee must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and walk dogs up to 130 pounds.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to hazards associated with aggressive patients; hazards associated with infected animals and controlled substances; exposure to unpleasant odors and noises; exposure to bites, scratches and animal wastes; possible exposure to contagious diseases.

* Knowledge associated with veterinary technician approved duties in the state of Nevada.
* Service Knowledge: Understanding of hospital services, anatomy and physiology basic, medical terminology, and policy interpretation.
* Communication & Efficiency: Phone etiquette, efficiency, and task prioritization.
Pay: $29.00 - $32.00 per hour
